At first glance, the speaker above may look like an ordinary iPod dock...that is, until you actually see the iPod inside of it. The $30,000 device is more than 8 feet wide and 700 pounds. Obviously it's more than a little ridiculous, but it's certainly a good way to attract attention to the Behringer's booth at next month's Consumer Electronics Show where it will debut.
In a recent interview with Nichelle Nichols, who played Lieutenant Uhura, it was revealed that Spock was originally intended to be a female and Nichols was slated to play the famous Vulcan. As it turns out though:
There was also a female character known as Number One, a cold, efficient and logical woman to play against the hot headed, libidinous Kirk. She was intended to by played by Majel Roddenberry, then Majel Barrett. Gene Roddenberry was dating her at the time, but hadn’t yet divorced his estranged wife. The studio producing Star Trek was uncomfortable A) with a woman as such a central character and B) with the scandalous nepotism of the whole thing. They also didn’t particularly like Spock as a character, and so as a compromise Roddenberry eliminated Number One, made a Spock the emotionless one, and promoted him to First Officer.
And thus, Nichols was instead cast as the legendary Lieutenant and the rest, as they say, is history.

We've featured some of photographer Slinkachu's work here before, but of all his Little People Project creations, the Worst Wurst might just be the most disgusting. That's because it features tiny people harvesting rat poo and then selling it at a food stand. The photos are great, but you might want to avoid looking at them while eating lunch.
If you live for celebrity food and beverage lines, then you'll love Mental Floss's list of 10 Celebrity Refreshments.
Personally, I'd like to mix some of The Situation's Devotion vodka mixed with some of Rush Limbaugh's Two if by Tea. It might not be the most delicious drink, but the conflicting celebrity endorsements must give it a great kick.
Huskies have evolved to survive in some of the most extreme environments on earth, so what do they do when removed from the cold and allowed to live in a warm home? Help themselves to cooling implements of course.
Up until now, if you wanted to actually have paper from Dunder Mifflin, the company made famous from NBC's The Office, you would have to print out your own box labels and affix them to another brand of paper. Fortunately for those obsessive people who demand everything to be branded with a name they've seen on television, NBC has struck up a deal with Quill.com, a subsidiary of Staples, to sell official Dunder Mifflin paper.
No word yet on how it competes with the big office chains, but I hear their customer service is simply unbeatable.

If you abide by the rule that the smaller something is, the cuter it must be, then it's hard to argue that these are undoubtedly the cutest donuts in the world. They are made from Cheerios though, so the same can't be said about their tastiness.
At least, not without a lot of nail painting skills. Apparently her other hand features the armies of Gondor, but since they didn't come out well with her camera, she left out those pictures.
Meet the newest critter at Perth's Zoo, a baby echidna. It's even known by an adorable/ugly name, as echidna babies are called "puggles." There are even more pictures over at the link.
Ok, maybe it's not able to solve the cube, but I'm just impressed that it is willing to try. I wonder if octopus and mantis shrimp would have fun playing with Rubik's cubes together.
There’s no tastier holiday tradition than creating your very own gingerbread house. If you aren’t very talented at sealing cookie bits together, like I am, even your best homes probably look like they’re ready to be condemned upon completion. Fortunately, not everyone is so inept at gingerbread creations and many creators go on to put together their own delightfully geeky designs. Here are some of the best nerdy gingerbread creations around.
Super Heroes
They may not be the most artistic gingerbread creations, but these super hero designs by Sugar Swings are certainly adorable and they look absolutely delicious as well.
Russian Literary Greats
For those who like their gingerbread men to be a little less chipper and lot more serious, these figureheads of Russian culture by Craftster forum user Woolylogic are a good choice. Choose between Turgenev, Dostoyevsky (above), Tolstoy and Gogol.
Architectural Masterpieces
Sure anyone can make a one-room gingerbread shack, but turning a unique architectural design into a gingerbread creation takes a heck of a lot more skill. That’s why these great designs by real architecture firms went for so much money when they were auctioned off for charity. In fact, the one above, by Nick Milkovich Architects, Inc., sold for $610.
The Weasley Family Burrow
While this architectural marvel may not look familiar to everyone, Harry Potter fans will instantly recognize it as The Burrow, the adorably charming home of the Weasley clan. Creator mezcraft from the Craftster forums even added the special monogrammed sweaters Mrs. Weasley makes for each of her children at Christmas.
Hogwarts
Of course, the most iconic Harry Potter building is Hogwarts and Britta’s incredibly detailed gingerbread version is an impressive tribute to the majesty of the world-famous wizarding school. Best of all, she’s even got pictures of the entire arduous process so you could attempt to make your own at home…with a whole lot of time and dedication.

If you're tired of boring old fabric-covered cubicles, you can always invest a little time and money to convert yours into a gorgeous wooden study. If only they had a how-to guide.
From spiders who can live underwater for a whole day at a time to underwater rivers with their own wave systems, it's simply amazing what can happen below the surface.
Abandoned buildings can be quite an eyesore in urban environments, but when artists get on board they can become their own makeshift museums.WebUrbanist has a great collection of cool empty buildings that are now brilliantly adorned in a variety of manners.
