People end up going to emergency rooms for a lot of strange reasons, but having a snake stuck in your ear gauge is probably a new one even for the veteran ER doctors. Ashley Glawe of Portland Oregon found out the hard way not to let your snake get too close to your ear gauges.
According to her Facebook posts where she shared the pictures, the snake got too close to the hole and before she knew what was happening, it was already stuck in her ear. On the upside, she and the snake are ok and she got to use some truly one-of-a-kind hashtags on the post like #SnakeStuckInEar and #SnakeStuckInEarlobe.

While she sells other designs, she really specializes in shibu inus like the planter at the top of the page and the vase above. Each sculpture is a perfect way to bring a little extra fun to your pet-free homes and offices.
It's hard to imagine your vision working completely different than it does, which is why these illustrations helping people with "normal" vision understand what colorblindness looks like are so fascinating.
If you're not colorblind, seeing things without blues, greens and reds can be quite strange and even a bit creepy, but it's a great way to appriciate how things look for those who can't see those colors naturally.

There are a lot of foods out there that may taste great and may actually be popular but are still pretty darn disgusting when looked at from an outsider's perspective. Foods like SPAM musubi, ambrosia salad and hot beef sundaes seem totally normal to those who love them, but to those from other regions, they may seem a bit gross -even if it's that kind of "eww that's terrible for you but I still want to try it" gross. Thrillist has compiled the grossest dish from each state and the results are fascinating.
While some things like carne adovada will seem at least worthy of a try to most readers, some of the items are hotly contested, like Cincinatti chili -which features either chocolate or cinnamon inside a thin chili and served on spaghetti. Of course, many readers disagreed with the choices, which only makes these kind of lists more fun. I, for one, have never even heard of "goop" and I've lived in California my whole life.

Redditor lensoo posted this photo saying a friend of his sent him this image of a flight where a Saudi Prince bought tickets for 80 falcons (technically, he said they were hawks, but Business Insider points out that they were actually falcons as falconry is a popular pastime in the Middle East). It's also relatively common for them to travel on planes in that part of the world.
According to Atlas Obscura, falcons can actually get their own passports for flying in the UAE. The regulations about falcons flying on planes are pretty strange, but also pretty interesting. You can read more about falcons on planes on Business Insider.

Thanks to Trump's wall and anti-immigration policies, Mexico has been in the news a lot lately, but while people have been talking a lot about the country, few people actually know much about it. Thanks to TopTenz, now you can actually learn a little about America's Southern neighbor and the facts they chose are pretty fascinating. For example, did you know Mexico is home to the world's smallest volcano and the oldest university in America?
And perhaps most surprising in our modern political climate -Mexico's net immigration to the US is negative, meaning more Mexicans are leaving the US to go back to Mexico than are coming to the US. Factors playing into this immigration trend are many, but include increased safety and more jobs in Mexico, as well as a desire to see friends and family members left behind.

Most of us who grew up since the 1960s (or who had a kid who did) remember the stories of Clifford the Big Red Dog. But one thing overlooked in the books was how his owners could possibly clean up after a dog the size of a house. One recent Reddit thread explored this concept and surprisingly, one Redditor actually came up with a completely reasonable solution: essentially, Clifford's owners would have to rent a commercial-sized dumpster and train the dog to go to the bathroom in it. The cost of cleanup would come out to around $100 a day, but as he points out, that's probably nothing compared to the cost of food for a pooch that big.

"Giant" and "hornet" are two words very few people want to see next to one another -and with good reason. The Asian giant hornet is exactly what you would expect from the name -a giant hornet that lives in Asia. Don't console yourself by thinking that maybe their size is a tradeoff that makes them less dangerous either. These giant hornets are just as aggressive as the regular ones we've all seen and their venom is even more potent. In fact, 30 to 40 people die each year in Japan due to stings from these wasps.
You may be thinking, "well at least they're in Asia so I'm safe here in my North American or Western European home," but while that might be true for the time being, the insects have been spotted in the US, France and England already and their numbers are likely to go up, not down in these countries.

Visually the botfly is just another fly and gross, but not all that terrible. But when you consider that the human botlfy larvae feeds on human flesh, it's easy to see why this insect is absolutely a thing of nightmares. The bug will lay its eggs on mosquitoes and ticks that then deposit the eggs on human skin when the blood-sucker goes in for a bite to eat. The eggs then manage to get under the skin of humans through the hole left behind by the parasite they were attached to and then the larvae will live there for six to eight weeks before bursting through the skin as a full-grown adult. It's enough to make you want to bathe in bug repellant.
