Yayo, how can you feel sad about that...? The fact that we, seemingly insignificant lumps of meat, are surrounded by--and have the fantastic priviledge to witness--such incredible forces should make you feel honored. In every moment of our existance we move through boundless expenditures of energy--radiation, magnetics, electricity, gravity--with all the casualness of a fish in a stream, and most people go from cradle to grave without even giving it a moment's thought! Would you rather stare at your feet in shame at that thought? Or isn't it better to, being made aware of it, raise you eyes up to the sky and gasp in wonder...?

I know what MY answer to that question would be! ;-)

It's not like you did it deliberately, Alex! If I'd known you didn't know about Jeff's site, I would have sent it in for you a long time ago. I found it several months back. Ironically enough, my first thought was "This would be great for Neatorama"...and then I forgot to send it...

*smacks forehead* ;-)

Frankly, I think someone needs to have a stern talking-to with the thief that took his images and made their own page out of it, failing to give him credit for his work.

I just LOVE those pics! The idea that that auroral display is the end result of mind-bendingly powerful electromagnetic forces at work, or that that sunspot could swallow several Earths...leaves me feeling humble and infinitesmally small. Simply amazing.

I doubt it, Moon--the ISS will probably serve as a sort of way-station for trips. I can't see NASA just abandoning the Space Station after putting so much work into it, and I'm sure that this is exactly what they had in mind--to use the ISS as a stopping-and-refueling point for shuttles.

Look, I'm not advocating child-labor or unsafe procedures, OK? I'd rather someone fix the chocolate industry, rather than ban it. Because if you ban it, you're not "fixing" anything. The poor kids will just end up being put to work doing something illegal and even MORE deadly.

Moon, I sincerely doubt a person would neglect their surrogate eyes. I'm sure they're at LEAST as well-groomed as the seeing-eye dogs I've seen.

I do agree with you on the carriage-for-hire horses, though. I always felt so bad for the ones that pulled carts in Austin...
