Someone Made a Horse Head Mask Ice Sculpture

You know that latex horse head mask that has taken over the world? Yeah, that one.

Well, redditor JJmann asked an important question in an Amazon review: "If I plugged the holes up, filled it with water and put it in my freezer, do you think I could create an ice sculpture of a horse head with this?"

People answered. They said it couldn't be done.

They were wrong.

It totally can be done.

JJmann reports, "The mask did not survive the procedure."

Want to try this on your own? Better pick up one of these first.

Say Hello To My Faceless Friend: Selfie Arm

Feeling lost? Alone? Well, no need for the world (ie. your Facebook friends) to know. This handy fiberglass selfie stick, called the Selfie Arm, will give the appearance that you are holding (shaking?) hands with a mysterious friend. If you're lucky, no one will put their finger on why you never show your new friend's face.

The Selfie Arm is a collaborative project by Aric Snee and Justin Crowe:

The sarcastic solution to a quintessential problem — nobody wants to look alone while they mindlessly snap pictures of themselves — the product conveniently provides you a welcoming arm.

Everyday Camo: This Shirt is Intentionally Stained

If you've ever marred your favorite shirt with blood, grass, red wine, and/or bike oil, Dirt Pattern Material might be right up your alley. It's a shirt with a special pattern, a "camouflage" of the aforementioned stainers.

This pattern doesn’t hide the wearer — it camouflages their past. The disruptive coloration allows for new stains to be incorporated, continuing the design process and evolving the pattern over time.

Love it.

It looks to be a one-up concept by MairWennel, so you'll have to figure out how to make one on your own. I'd start with a glass of red wine.

Disabled Student Piggybacked to School For Three Years by Friend

For the past three years, 18-year old Chinese student Xie Xu has been voluntarily carrying his 19-year-old classmate Zhang Chi to school and back. Zhang Chi's muscles are weakened by muscular dystrophy which makes it difficult for him to get around by himself. Xie made the decision to help his friend after watching him struggle to get to class.

The two have never missed a day of school and are top students.

A Look at Disneyland's Squished Coin Presses

My daughter knows that the only trip souvenir I allow is a squished penny. They're fun to look at, inexpensive, and don't take up much space. She's cool with that rule, as we both take great pride in displaying our ever-growing collection in "penny passports."

We were happy to hear that, for Disneyland's 60th anniversary Diamond Celebration, the park's elongated coin machines will feature some all new pressings. In fact, there will be over 40 new designs.

For 25 years, Disneyland Electromechanical Shop worker Rob Johnson has been making and maintaining coin presses for the resort. In this video, he shares a look behind these collectibles:

That guy really loves his job!

This Banana Night Light is SO A-Peelin'!

See what I did there...in the headline? It says "a-peelin'" and it's a BANANA, because bananas have PEELS. Ok, ok, sorry. It could have been worse, I could have said, "Go Bananas For This Night Light!" or "This Night Light is PEELY Awesome!"

In any event, this battery-powered Banana Night Light IS quite cool. It's available at Firebox for ~$20.

Bigfoot Bundt Cake

Big news! Bigfoot has been found...inside a bundt cake! Jenn Fujikawa over at Nerdist used a Bigfoot cookie cutter to make him appear inside this tasty treat.

Sasquatch. Yeti. Bigfoot. He goes by so many names, yet he’s still an enigma. He could be behind that tree in the woods, or perhaps in the icy mountain of a theme park ride, but most likely you’ll find him… in a bundt cake.

Want to make it? The recipe and tutorial are available at Nerdist.

Hold the Mayo: The Burger Babe Bow

Texas crafter Kim Mills of the HappyMillsShop has crafted the Burger Babe Bow, a plush hair bow that looks a cheeseburger. Tasty!

It features:

...felt tomatoes with painted seed details, gathered satin ribbon lettuce, fleece cheese slices and felt meat patties sandwiched between two fluffy fleece buns with hand beaded "sesame seeds."

It's available for $22 on Etsy and a smaller version (the "Baby Burger Bow") is offered for $18.

Presidents Removed From Their Coins

This is fun. The tiny heads of American presidents have been cut out of their coins (oops, Jefferson lost his phony tail in the process!). The cut coins are the handiwork of a friend of Imgur user pfefferminzetea who says "some kind of precision saw blade" was used to do the dirty work. Though, there's quite a debate on how precisely the presidents' heads were removed going on over at reddit

Before you ask, I checked, cutting coins is not illegal, unless you do it with the intent to defraud.

But, I have a question, am I the only one who remembers when they used to have a cast member in Disney World's Liberty Square making cutout coin jewelry?

Sushi Bazooka

This is the Sushezi, or what the Internet has deemed the "Sushi Bazooka" for obvious reasons. It looks like something straight out of Japan, but it's actually a product of a New Zealand company.

You open it up, put a bed of rice down, add your fillings, and then push it together to "load" the barrel.

Rocketnews24 reports that the contraption doesn't "blast the sushi roll out of the barrel" but that "it’s more of a slow ooze, rather than an explosion." How disappointing. Still, it looks pretty cool.

Watch the slow sushi ooze coming out of the barrel in this video by Seiken TV. It gets really good around the 2:48 mark:

You can also use it to make chocolate salamis, ginger-nut logs, and similary-rolled foods. It's available on Amazon for $26.

102-Year-Old Woman Watches Footage of Herself Dancing For the First Time

Get out the tissues, this one is a tear(s of joy)-jerker.

In the 1930s and 40s, Alice Barker danced in a chorus line during the Harlem Renaissance. For her 102nd birthday, David Shuff got hold of the videos of her performing and showed them to her at her nursing home.

There's a first time for everything, and this is Alice's first time watching herself dance on film. The footage alone is 70+ years old!

Watch, she still wants to get up and dance:

She danced at clubs such as The Apollo, Cotton Club, and Zanzibar Club, with legends including Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly, and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson.

Amazing.

Read the entire story over at Mashable, where you can find out how to send Ms. Barker some snail mail. I suggest you do.

Just a Lady Robot Trying to Eat Some Breakfast

Here's a lady robot just trying to have a little breakfast of Cheerios and orange juice.

Her name is Karen X. Cheng and you may remember her time-lapse video that went viral where she taught herself to dance in a year.

Give her new video a watch:

Thanks, Orion H.!

It's like the '90s again: The Complete Eightball 1-18 comics anthology by Daniel Clowes

In the 1990s, back when I published a paper zine and was dating an artist/comic book store employee, I got hooked on Eightball by Daniel Clowes. This comic anthology, originally published from 1989 to 1997, is still one of my all-time favorites and, everytime I flip through them, I always find cool details I hadn't seen before.

You can imagine I was thrilled to find out that Fantagraphics is releasing The Complete Eightball 1-18 on June 21, 2015.

[And, if you didn't know, Eightball featured Ghost World the graphic novel which became Ghost World the movie.]

Over at Flickr, there are several preview images. Take a look. Better yet, just pre-order the 2-volume set already.

R2-ME2, Artists Reimagine Star Wars' Iconic Droid R2-D2

by Michael Woodring

These may not be the droids you're looking for!

For a Sideshow Collectibles show at the 2015 Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California titled "R2-ME2," artists were given the chance to change the look of a blank R2-D2 1/6 scale figure. Entries included a droid painted to like a robotic Pee-wee Herman (red bowtie and all), Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street ("Scram"), and an adorable likeness of Finn from Adventure Time.

Check the rest of them out over at Sideshow Collectibles.
