Water-Loving Cat

Alex

Cats hate water, right? Well, the old stereotype doesn't seem to apply to USA Today Pet Talk columnist Sharon Peter's Grisabella. Meet the cat that LOVES to play in water!

The old "cats hate water" stereotype may be true much of the time (especially at forced-bath time), but mine isn't the only feline in America that seeks out moments of wetness, I now know (having investigated this matter in hopes of learning she is so rare that starring roles in pet movies, or at least cat food commercials, might be possible).

There's a breed called the Turkish Van that loves water, and many of them are avid swimmers; lots of owners of Bengals (the cat, not the tiger) report that their felines are water babies, too. And, I learned, you can even find cats-swimming videos on YouTube, action footage that proves it's not just pedigreed cats that enjoy the occasional dip.

And sure enough: there are a lot of swimming cats on YouTube

The Farewell Email: "So Long Suckers! I'm Out!"

Alex

The farewell email, the last piece of correspondence to send to your co-workers when you are leaving the company, is usually a utilitarian method of letting people know how to contact you. But for some, it has evolved into a megaphone to voice their rant ... or their creativity:

It was not the most eloquent subject line for a farewell e-mail to 5,000 co-workers: "So long, suckers! I'm out!"

But Jason Shugars worked at Google, whose off-center corporate culture is more forgiving than that of your average buttoned-down investment bank. In the rest of his goodbye, Shugars, a senior sales compliance specialist, reminisced about workplace moments that included putting cake down his pants at a sales conference, stealing a boss' $8,000 leather couch and singing "Hit Me Baby One More Time" in a miniskirt and braids.

"It took me a long time to write it," said Shugars, 34, who left Google to become director of ad operations for the music streaming website Imeem. "I didn't want to send out a stale 'good working with you, please reach me here' e-mail. Who wants that?"

Woman Makes Clothes Out of Own Hair

Alex

Ioana Cioanca, a 71-year-old Romanian woman, is sort of a fashion extremist. Not only does she make her own clothes, she makes 'em out of her own hair!

Ioana Cioanca, 71, from Bistrita Nasaud, grew her hair from the age of 16 until it was 40 inches long so she could weave it. [...]

"Maybe there are other women who did this but I don't know if they have so many items. I have nine of them: a hat, a shawl, a skirt, a blouse, a raincoat, a purse, a handbag and a pair of gloves."

So how do the clothes feel? "Quite comfortable and warm," she said. Link

Rent-A-Hookah

Alex

While other college students deliver pizza to help pay for tuition, University of Colorado graduate Eric Osowski got another idea: he started a business delivering ... hookahs!

Launched last year, Deliver-a-Bowl rents hookahs -- Indian water pipes used for smoking tobacco or more illicit substances -- for $15 apiece, or $13 each for two or more. The pipes come with flavored tobacco; varieties include everything from peach, grape and guava to chocolate mint or Irish crème.

And when renters are finished, Deliver-a-Bowl comes back and picks the hookahs back up.

But don't you dare smoke something other than tobacco - the company will report you to the cops if one of their hookahs are used for illegal substance: Link - via Dave Barry's Blog (Photo: Cliff Grassmick)

Atlantis: Found by Google Ocean?

Alex

Google Maps: Link

Has Google Ocean finally found the missing city of Atlantis? A curious rectangular pattern 100 miles wide was spotted off the coast of Spain, in 17,800 ft deep water:

Situated in an area called the Madeira Abyssal Plane, the grid was spotted by aeronautical engineer Bernie Bamford as he browsed through Google Ocean.

Bernie, 38, of Chester, said: “It looks like an aerial map of Milton Keynes. It must be man-made.”

We've featured a lot of unusual bookshelf designs on Neatorama before, but never one that you can "roll" up with a good book. Here's

Duck Walks Into a Bar ...

Alex

Peterman's Eye has a neat post analyzing (okay, more like gently 'splaining) the classic "man walks into a bar" joke. Includes some of the best groaners I've read in ages, such as:

Inanimate objects can walk into a bar: Three fonts walk into a bar. The bartender says, "We don't serve your type in here."

And my favorite:

A duck walks into a bar. And he says to the bartender "Got any grapes?" The bartender says "No, I don't have any grapes." The duck walks out, sorely disappointed.

So the next day, he walks back into the bar, asks the same question, gets the same answer.

The day after, he walks back into the bar, and again, asks the bartender, "Do you have any grapes?" The bartender, having still not figured out why this duck seems to think he may have some grapes, says to the duck, "No, and if you come back in here tomorrow and ask me if I have any grapes, I will nail your bill to the bar!"

The duck frowns, turns around, and walks out of the bar. So the next day, the duck walks back into the bar, and asks the bartender "Got any nails?"

The bartender says, "No."

So the duck says, "Got any grapes?"
