My three kids went to pre-school - their teacher told me that the goal was not to teach them to read or anything academic like that, but to teach them to listen and to get along with others. I think they mostly had fun at class :)
I saw a gymnastic event in UCLA recently, and noticed that the coach positioned himself at certain strategic positions during particularly challenging routines. I think they know the moves that are particularly dangerous and ready themselves to save the athlete just in case she missed.
