This is yours truly in the chamber where we had beetles breeding. Each jar contained a male and female, a sugar maple log for oviposition and twigs for food. They were changed weekly and extracted larvae were raised in cups of artificial diet until pupation. One of the grad students was working on his PhD developed a way to control them using fungus.

I worked for four years in entomology research at Cornell, raising Asian Long Horn Beetles for study, including eradication methods. They were kept in an underground facility that had 4 doors between the bugs and the outside. We were always alert to keeping it secret and secure.

To my knowledge there have been two strikes close to my house since we moved here in 2001. One hit my next door neighbor's tall tree, breaking off a portion of it. The other appeared to have hit an island garden next to my house. Shortly after a large Canary Island Date Palm died off, likely a victim of the strike.

Remembering when my brother was playing football at Penn State, went to a game when they played the Air Force Academy. At half time their falconers put on quite an impressive show. Funny seeing 50K + people applauding diving birds.

I used a photo of a woman like that and an x-ray of her when covering the human skeletal system in my biology classes. The rings actually compress the shoulders, clavicles, etc. not elongating the neck bones.

Reminds me of seeing a blackjack dealer at the Frontier in Las Vegas. Watching him flip the cards out to the players was a sight to see. The cards always ended up face down.

Maybe the question should be why did others go to metric. I used it in the Army and in scientific research, but in everyday things, pounds, feet, etc. are a lot easier to estimate.
