The Garden of Eden is myth. Where ancients placed this myth isn't, necessarily. The trick is to keep mythology separate from history and all will be fine.
Jaywalking laws are really in place to get more money out of people. They are a big scam. There are no jaywalking laws in the UK because it is assumed one is going to act in the name of self preservation any time they cross the street, and seriously, accidents happen, but if you aren't paying attention, that's your problem. This is at least one area where the Nanny State hasn't stuck its nose in for the sake of control or money making.
On the driver's end of things, getting a driver's license in the States is a joke. It's where I learned to drive. Coming to the UK, I had to start all over again, and after 15 years of driving experience, took lessons for several months before going through a rather grueling driving exam. Drivers here are far more responsible and take the idea that driving is a privelege and not a right very seriously.
Fancy rats are what you get in pet stores, and they are a domestic rat that have nothing to do with what you do find in the sewers. They are very clean, can be taught to use a litter box, and incredibly social. Just adding to the defense of the rat. They are great pets.
Thing is, V, here in the UK, not so long ago, these same people were called out for basically allowing a child to die despite their being aware of the serious abuse in the home. They already have a huge amount of egg on their face, and slaying dragons that aren't there isn't making them look any better right now. Behaving rashly at this point in time is just making them an even bigger joke than they already are. A tragic joke. I agree with your assesment, mind you, but there's plenty of child abuse and then some that they are blatantly ignoring.
Jaywalking laws are stupid, because a person has a personal responsibility to not cross the street in front of a moving vehicle. If they do it unsafely, it's on them as far as I am concerned.
