Dave 20's Comments

I remember being amazed during a visit to Great Britain years ago, the Big Mac that I got at a McDonald's over there actually looked like the burgers in the ads. Had never seen one like it before or since. Should've taken a picture.

Oh, and it was real food. Tasted just like any other Big Mac I'd had!

You know, BoingBoing was once the end-all of the blogosphere, but it seems to me they are slipping something terrible these days. I read it on occasion, even though some of the content thoroughly disgusts me, but lately many of the posts they put up I've seen already on Neatorama or Mental Floss or others. And it used to be that you could hardly keep up with the posts they put up; now I can go there once a week and not miss a thing (no, I don't do RSS.)

I think BoingBoing has run its course, in a Saturday Night Live sort of way. They seem to try to push the envelope a bit too much and come out with the crude and gross, trying to pass it off as "wonderful". And their politics and open-source-everything mentality is just a bit much sometimes. They still have some good content, but...

Or is it just me?

I thought the same thing, Ted; Great until a squirrel or rabbit crosses your path. Or another dog.

I SAID WHOAAAAA!"

Reminds me of my next-door-neighbor; he used to work in an office housed in an old, old building downtown, and kept his car parked in a spot immediately behind the building. One day the facade of the building came loose, and he ended up with about 2 tons of brick & mortar on top of his car. He'd leased the thing about 2 months earlier.

Reminds me of a girl I once knew; she referred to a standard screwdriver as the "minus", and the phillips as the "plus". That relationship didn't go anywhere.

You mean there was climate change before the evil western world decided to dump billions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere? Somebody call Rosie!

The most amazing part of the coral castle is that Ed (supposedly) built the entire thing with no outside help and no motorized equipment. Some of the blocks weigh several tons. One neat detail I recall is that there is a swinging gate that weighs 9 tons, and pivoted on an old truck bearing.

Too bad old Ed wasn't more willing to share some of his secrets; we all could've learned something from him.

What, he couldn't get that last half a dog down to make an even 60?

After something like that I wouldn't want to touch a dog for two years, so keep the year's supply, thank you very much. Just thinking about eating that much makes me gag.

Just a correction; Iowa, Kansas, the Dakotas and Minnesota use words from the Lakota language. Sioux is the name given to the Lakota by white settlers, who learned it from scouts from other tribes; Sioux is a bit of a derivative of the word for "alien" or someone who speaks another language. The name really stuck, and is still used even by some Lakota, but in their own language, "Lakota" is the term they use when referring to themselves and the language.

A little moderation may be needed on Comment #4.

While one of the points of this thing is right on the money — that we're not all that different from each other — there is so much other garbage in it that the thing loses credibility pretty fast. Global Public Opinion is the new superpower? Please. Millions of get-out-the-vote callers "defeated Bush's party"? Don't get me started.

"Real Middle East Peace Talks" wanted by the majority of Palestinians and Israelis? Sure, but it's kinda hard to sit down & reason with someone whose stated goal is your annihilation.

My brother has been playing that for some time. In Sioux Falls, SD, no less. The way it sounded, it's a fairly well-known game.

The play is a bit different than in the video; they play on a full-size soccer field, and use feet and front wheel for moving the ball around. For the most part they use old mountain bikes; some use fixed gears for forward/reverse like the guys in the video. Lots of fun to watch, but I've not played before.
