I feel sorry for this lady because in a decade, she'll certainly be grown out of that phase but, unlike in 'my times' where people would just forget about your more embarrassing periods, or otherwise you could still start a new life in a new town, the blogosphere has exposed this rather benign personality disorder of hers in a way that will brand her for life as the crazy catlady.
As to her issue itself: there are I-don't-know-how-many million or billion species in the world, so why a cat and not a deep sea fish or a snail from the rainforest? Yeah, because cats, I get it... Maybe she should see a vet ^^

Time should be around 1910. At least in Germany, it was quite usual to take photos of kids in fancy disguises. I have a photo from that very same time showing my grandfather and his sister in some folkloristic attire (as gipsies?), another with him as a little sailor on a fake boat coulisse.
I think photographers had a great collection of requisites to concurr on the fanciest kid pics. The trapeze artist photo is probably also a make-up, unless it shows the twins actually performing acrobatics.

Actually, I was looking for a trashcan last week and I came across quite a few of these original vintage rusty trashcans, priced between 100 and 300€. It's obviously quite a thing.
