Wrap Her Wrist in Nature

These lovely bangle bracelets are made of resin embedded with nature's embellishments such as flowers, leaves, bark, shells and pine cones. The bracelets are hand made.

The jewelry, which includes rings and pendants, is generally available at Modern Flower Child at Etsy. However, likely overwhelmed with orders as a result of their recent press, the shop has an announcement up that they're taking a break to fulfill orders. The jewelry is also available through Fairie magazine. See the offerings and inquire about stock there. -Via Colossal

Funny, One-Star Reviews of Oscar Nominated Movies

One can go to any site where critiques of product can be read and find them: reviews from the disgruntled and angry. The reviewers who want you to know what they think of the product — exactly what they think, without mincing words or sparing feelings.

Sometimes that person is the sole honest analysis in the entire batch. Yet sometimes they're just having a really bad day/year/life. Whether what they say has merit or not, it's usually good for a laugh, as writers at Buzzfeed thought when they created these images of movie posters to include words of wisdom from one-star reviewers everywhere. See their full collection here.

Brian Williams: The Meme

The public, particularly on the internet, never lets a scandalized person forget their troubles. Par for the course, once NBC News anchor and managing editor Brian Williams was caught "misremembering" events, including when he was in Iraq in 2003, a meme was born. Hashtag BrianWilliamsMisremembers is on a roll and some amusing images emerged. A few examples are shown above and below. Visit here and here to see many more.

Life Inside Jabba the Hutt

Vimeo Link

Documentary filmmaker Jamie Benning has made films on Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark, as well as three others on the Star Wars original trilogy. This film is a 20-minute long mini-documentary entitled Slimy Piece of Worm-Ridden Filth: Life Inside Jabba the Hutt.

With interviews of Jabba's primary puppeteer Toby Philpott, the film traces Jabba's "life" after his initial creation as one of the most expensive puppets ever made. Interviews are interspersed with behind-the-scenes footage of Return of the Jedi that show how Jabba's movements were accomplished. Viewers are also treated to anecdotes such as the following:

"George Lucas wasn't as impressed by [Jabba]. I think he would have liked to have done it by CGI, even then, but the technology wasn't there yet, and I'm not sure he was entirely convinced by a three-dimensional puppet. He wasn't satisfied that Jabba couldn't walk around for instance, where I quite like that fact that he obviously was a gigantic slug who rarely goes anywhere and when he does, people carry him, I guess."

A Dog Who Can't Get to the Dog Park Fast Enough

YouTube Link

Jason Ephraim's dog Baxter, like many of his species, just loves the dog park. One day, while getting in the back of the car to go to the park, Baxter realized that a minor, canine-fixable detail was slowing down the process. Ephraim explains,

"Baxter loves going to the dog park and realized one day that I couldn't close the trunk with his leash hanging out. My jaw dropped the first time he pulled it in himself. Obviously, he isn't willing to wait for Pluto to come to the same realization."

Aw, Pluto. You'll learn the ways and means of traveling to the dog park eventually, buddy. Until then, Baxter has your back. -Via Tastefully Offensive

A View From the Dark Side of the Moon, Courtesy of NASA (Scored by Pink Floyd)

This video from the NASA Scientific Visualization Studio shows the phases of the moon as viewed from the "dark side" (a misnomer). Their simulation is as beautiful as it is intriguing. How amazing would it be to see the moon with the blue marble of Earth looming behind it?

But now, let's get down to serious, scientific biz: visit this link and follow the Daily Dot's instructions to the letter on how to sync NASA's video with Pink Floyd. As they said, "You're welcome!"

Children's Book Titles Changed to Fit the Downsides of Adult Life

College Humor's Nathan Yaffe re-titled children's books intending them to resonate with twenty-somethings, yet adults of all ages may be able to relate. There are some sudden epiphanies that fly in the face of young adults as soon as they leave the nest, some of which they didn't see coming. This humorous look at a few of the harsh realities of life over 18 is capable of making one yearn for times in which the biggest worry was how late we could roam the neighborhood with our friends on summer nights.

See more of these parodies of children's book titles here.

The Ancient Palace of Sigiriya

Image: Hennebery blog

On the slopes and summit of a 650-foot high Sri Lankan peak lie the ruins of the ancient city Sigiriya. Locals also call the rock fortress pictured above “Lion’s Rock.” The majestic site, built in the fifth century by King Kassapa I, can be seen from miles away.

In its time, the complex, with its moat and ramparts, was not only strong on defense. King Kassapa outfitted it for pleasure as well. Extensive gardens and frescoes were just a few features that added beauty to the city.

There's much more to learn about this fascinating location, including the royal drama that led to its construction, the existence of an ancient graffiti wall and more. Read a detailed description and see additional pictures of Sigiriya here and here.

Chubby Puppies Who Look Like Teddy Bears

Newfoundland | Source: reddit

There's nothing cuter than the chub of a baby, no matter the species. Even the human race, the majority of which seems to dislike "chubby" in their fellow humans, loves it on an infant. This user-submitted collection of roly poly puppies, who could sit in a toy store among the giant Gunds and likely not be recognized, is an "Aww" fest. Dog lovers, prepare to wish you had a place for another one.

All 86 Best Picture Oscar Winners, Ranked

BuzzFeed assembled a listing of every Academy Award winning film in the Best Picture category since the inception of the Oscars. The films are ranked in order of their favorites. Obviously, taste in movies varies wildly from person to person, and it's likely that no one will agree with the way these films are ranked. Yet the list is nice because it features great images of each picture and key information as to who directed and wrote the picture, what films competed with it in the Best Picture category for that year, as well as mentions of the actors and other facts.

The photo above is of number twelve on the list, 1939's Gone With the Wind, directed by Victor Fleming and written by Sidney Howard. The film is a grand-scale epic in which the enduring characters remain vivid and engaging, even so many years later. Read more about the other 85 Oscar-winning Best Picture films here.

Superheroines in Splashy Costumes

Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz, for his series Splash Heroes, photographs sexy subjects cast as superheroines. Their costumes appear painted on, but actually the medium is far more natural. The "paint" is colored milk. The method of "clothing" the heroines is natural as well, as the color is not edited on, but spashed onto their bodies. The milk, food colored to the desired shades, is subsequently thrown in different directions and sections of the models' bodies in order to mimic the look, flow and drape of real clothing. At that point, the images are layered on top of each other in an editing program to achieve the finished look. The final product is a composite of approximately 200 images.

Wieczorkiewicz created a calendar of the Splash Heroes, which sold out in only a few days. He plans to make posters of the images available soon. Visit his website to keep an eye on the offerings and to see more of his work. See more images of the Splash Heroes series here.
