How Making a Silly, Six-Second Video Changed a Man's Life

Approximately one year ago, when Matt King and his brother Kevin were stuck in traffic on the way home from college for the weekend, a bored Matt made a silly video of himself making high-drama faces while lip syncing to a Beyoncé song. He had a Vine account. He thought the video was stupid, but his brother encouraged him to post it anyway. He did. It was the first Vine Matt had ever posted.

What a difference a year and six seconds can make in this fast moving and strange digital world. Matt now has over 550,000 Vine followers, and his internet fame has changed his life. He's moved from Austin, Texas to Los Angeles. Corporations began to offer him money for his internet consulting services. All of the contacts he made netted him a dream job at Apple, and the story doesn't end there.

Read the rest of Matt's trajectory to internet fame here. It's enough to make one want to sit around dreaming up stupid six-second video clips.

The Creative Processor

Have you ever stopped to analyze how you create, whether it's for work or hobbies? Grant Snider of Incidental Comics explores the creative process, likening it to an appliance of sorts, with his web comic "The Creative Processor." This is only a portion of the comic.

What Really Happens When Someone Enters the Witness Protection Program

Longtime Department of Justice attorney Gerald Shur was the man behind the creation of the U.S. Marshall Service Witness Security Program (WITSEC). Shur has also co-written an informative book on the topic, Witsec: Inside the Federal Witness Protection Program. More than 18,000 people have been protected from harm under WITSEC since it was initiated in 1971.

This article is a brief yet interesting read that includes details about WITSEC, particularly about its setup and what that means for people entering the program.

25 Fun Bow Ties

Many men seem to be firmly seated in one of two camps: pro or anti bow tie. I've seen women who wear bow ties as well, particularly when they're sporting an androgynous look. For those who appreciate a fun bow tie, here is a collection of 25 ties designed to appeal to geek culture enthusiasts. See all of them here. The styles in these photos can be ordered at Little Corner Creation on Etsy.

Ooh La La: Vintage Photos of Flight Attendants in their Uniforms

These days, they're called flight attendants, they wear buttoned up, full coverage outfits like suits and they're the mouthpiece of The People With the Cuffs on Terra Firma. But way back when, they were breezy, done up and scantily clad to lure passengers aboard with the tantalizing promise of deep dips, exotic hors-d'oeuvres and umbrella drinks.

This collection of flight attendant uniforms in the days of old show that the ladies of the sky have come a Long Way, Baby from the days when they puffed Virginia Slims in the cabin and served caviar.

Dogs Who Have No Idea How Funny They Look With Their Toys

Source:

When it comes to the chew toys shown here, the joke is on these dogs. They're running around blissfully enjoying their new chew, totally unaware it's giving them a bad case of buck teeth. Some self-respecting guy dogs might not be walking with so much swagger if they knew they had a lipstick mouth with a red pucker rivaling that on any Rolling Stones album

I bought my dog the toy with the big tongue sticking out (shown in the article linked below) and the joke was on me  he never once played with it. Perhaps he sensed shenanigans and said no dice.

See more dogs who look silly with their toys in their mouths here.

Fifteen Television Shows That Were Canceled After Only One Episode

Occasionally a television show will be canceled and there will be a backlash against the network powers that be from angry fans defending its quality and demanding that it return to the air. Alternately, a seriously awful show might be canceled almost immediately, with little or no resistance. The latter scenario is the case with these fifteen shows, one of which is an unfortunate A&E reality show about "The Hoff" himself. Revolving around David Hasselhoff's day-to-day life and attempts
to revive his post-Baywatch career and get his two daughters into the biz, the misguided idea turned production bombed as soon as it aired. The cable channel abruptly put it out of its misery.

Read about more horrific sounding one-episode wonders — including a British comedy called Heil Honey, I'm Home about Hitler and Eva Braun moving next door to a Jewish couple — here.

French Bulldog Takes Things into His Own Paws When Left in the Car

YouTube Link

This Frenchie from Eureka, California is obviously not a fan of being left alone in the car. He's bored and wants his human to get a move on. Thus, as he can't hotwire and reach to put the pedal to the metal, he put his paw on the horn. Leave this cutie in the car for too long and he'll lay on the horn for just as long. 14 Things You Might Not Know About Se7en

Brad Pitt went through the wringer during the filming of David Fincher's 1995 crime drama Se7en, in more ways than one. While filming a scene in which his character gives chase to a suspect in the rain, Pitt fell and his arm went through a windshield, severing his tendon with a cut down to the bone. The cast Pitt had to to wear in order to heal his injury was
written into the script, which necessitated a few scenes being reshot. During those scenes Pitt was forced to keep the cast hidden.

A Collection of Business Cards That Lend Insight Into Their Famous Holders

It's interesting what we can glean about people by certain choices they make. In the case of this business card collection, we can see who (at least, at the time in which they carried the card shown) is into simplicity, who tends to be flamboyant and who may have an ego. We can make educated guesses as to how they feel about or the significance they attach to their work by the size, shape, color, fonts and information on the cards. Business cards are the windows to the marketing soul — even American Psychos know that.

See the full card collection here.
