Cost effective, no. The cost of a shuttle launch is quite a lot and you'd still need a way to get the crew up and down (or at least down). There was talk back in the day of converting an external tank into livable space; they already make it 95% of the way to orbit. However, launching a "wet" station like that comes with all kinds of complications.

The original Skylab plan was to be a wet station as well, but they couldn't figure out how to get all the unused propellant out and fittings in once it got to orbit. When a spare Saturn V turned up, they had enough extra power to just launched a dry station and be done with it.

Sure, there are natural climbs far taller than this; this is only a single pitch or less. But most man-made climbing walls are on the 10 meter scale. This is impressive as hell, particularly in that it isn't vertical and is a weird shape. It would be easy to just build a rectangular prism and cover the outside with plywood and climbing holds. It's exhausting just to look at.

Holy cats! I had this book as a lad and much of my love of language and odd juxtapositions stemmed from within her pages. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Adan: Nice job artistically, and good work. But I echo the other comments about the pacing. It's also not at all clear what story you're trying to tell here besides a bunch of creepy Christian allegory. The only way to be happy after personal loss is to die and be with the ones you love? Whoa!
