Giant Gollum

Giant Gollum wants a fish. This 13 meter long (that is 42.6 feet) creation is found at Wellington Airport in New Zealand. Designed and produced by Richard Taylor and Weta Workshop supervisor Rob Gillies.

Fun fact, growing up I always watched the extra feature sections on DVDs and from the Lord of The Rings DVD I learned about Weta Workshop. I quickly developed a sort of a crush on the place. I watched the videos, read articles, even looked up what it would take to work there. Unfortunately you have to be a New Zealand residant, so yeah... dream foiled.

This is still awesome though! Watch a video on the process here.

Men vs. Women Pie Chart

I sat here at my computer for about 20 minutes while I thought about posting this. Just trying to figure out how I was going to attack it. What quick-quip I would come up with to grab your attention.

Instead of that... why don't you clever neatoramanauts tell me what you think of this?

Agree? Dissagree? Too simplistic? Let the thoughts flow, people.

Zombies vs Trick-Or-Treaters

I know the feeling. Come Halloween, I am not sure which I feel more connected to- my brain or my candy. Fine, fine, you're right. Take the brain but leave me my Rolos and Caramel Apple Pops.

The Sessions

(Warning: Some Sexual Language in Trailer) The Sessions is a film about the real life of Mark O'Brian, a man almost primarily contained to a 750lb iron lung. As a child, O'Brian had a bout with polio that left him largely paralyzed. The crux of the matter is, Mark now wants to have sex. He enlists the "help" of a sex therapist who he may or may not eventually fall in love with.

Find out interesting facts about iron lungs from the Nat Geo blog.

Birds of a Feather Look Pretty Together

Beautiful paper creations by Diana Beltran Herrera. I can't imaging the amount of time and dedication each one of these must have taken.

Introducing World's Strongest Beer

Meet the World's new strongest beer- a beer called Armageddon. With 65% alcohol, this drink is 130 proof. The beer is the creation of the Scottish brewery Brewmeister.

A spokesman said: "Despite being 65%, the beer has a lot of flavour - malty, hoppy, slightly sweet and lots of yeast still in the beer... ...Be careful though, smelling it is probably enough to put you over the limit!"

That 65 percent alcohol by volume trumps the previous champion, a beer made by BrewDog, which was at 55 percent. They were able to achieve such a high percentage by freezing the beer, removing some of the ice that forms, while leaving much of the unfrozen alcohol (because water and alcohol freeze at vastly different temperatures).

The beer is for sale in 330ml bottles at £40.00, but there is a two week back order due to high demand.

America's New Fastest Road

I thought I liked driving fast but a speed limit set at 85mph? What are you crazy? This new toll road in Texas links Austin to San Antonio. A private company has shelled out the cash personally for the road, they get to maintain and operate the road for the next 50 years and in return they keep most of the money from the toll. Here is the catch, they are charging $6.17 to use the road.

The video does some interesting number crunching and it turns out, at 41 miles, that $6.17 compares pretty favorably to other toll roads across the country if you go by the dollar per mile. Sounds great but I think you have to remember that the rate only holds its value if you are using the whole 41 miles.

Either way wherever you are going on the toll, you will be getting there fast.

Push-Car DeLorean

This is Cooper's first ever Halloween. Cooper will get to kick it in a DeLorean, that lucky duckling. Not a bad way to start little man. Cooper's parents built him a DeLorean ala Back to the Future. I was going to be Marty McFly for Halloween, but now this kid has me beat! I can't show up as McFly- acting like I have the best costume around, when I know deep down in the ventricles of my heart I will always be in second place.

It is made out of cardboard, tape, paint, and mega-nerd love.

Steampunk Ghostbusters Proton Pack

I have always been fascinated by the steampunk community, but I don't think I really understood why until now. Why make everything look so odd? Because you can! This Ghostbusters Proton Pack is made by Grant Wilson on Deviantart. Grant, where can I get one?

Classics For Kids

As much as I am tired of hearing Gangnam Style, little kids singing it to the tune of the Jurassic Park theme song by John Williams makes me happy. Here we have an example of parents and teachers using an extremely creative way to introduce classical music to their kids in order to get them interested in music (real music). I want to applaud them, in fact I am sitting here at my computer clapping... as I write this. That is how great I feel about these people and this video.

Hobbit Food

Why watch The Hobbit when you could eat The Hobbit? In my opinion, this is probably the single greatest food promotion of all time. Pure genius. I am googling where the closest Denny's is to my house right now. Check out this video promotion at G4. The promotion starts November 6th, so get your affairs in order people.

Oops My Head Fell Off

Magician Rich Ferguson "aka The Ice Breaker" is out on the streets of San Luis Obispo, CA for Halloween scaring people with a pretty impressive trick. I am not positive how he does it, I think something to do with stilts, but if I stumbled on this unexpectedly like these people do- I would be freaking out too.

Moniker Art Fair

Not too long ago we mentioned the Moniker Art Fair in a post about street artist LUDO. For those of you who enjoyed the LUDO piece, here are some highlights from the Fair. It took place in London, England from October 11th to the 14th. There is a long list of the artists involved here, but it does include a few notables such as the aforementioned LUDO, Luke Chueh (Hello Kitty Hello Art!), and the infamous C215.

Man Gets Back £51,000 He Stole

Apparently being a thief pays. 19 years ago bank manager Otto Neuman stole £150,000 in cash, gold bars, and gold coins from his own branch. When he was caught there was only about £51,000 left in cash and the gold recovered. In a bureaucratic twist of events the bank did not claim the money because their insurance company covered their losses. The insurance company also did not claim the money because the gold they recovered had increased enough in value (since it was stolen) that it covered their money spent covering the bank.

Herbert Eichenseder, Neuman's lawyer, has confirmed that an Austrian court has now ordered, some 19 years after the events, that Neuman is to be returned the £51,000 he stole.

Mr. Eichenseder said: "I really didn't believe what the court were telling me but I checked it and it was correct. I had to go into the archives in our cellar to find the details of the case as it was already 19 years old - and I managed to track down the man's details and contacted him to tell him the news. To say that he was surprised was an understatement, but he provided his bank account details and the money has now been transferred."
