Matt, just because the Nazis chose to interpret Darwin's theory of evolution (not a psychological theory, but it is often referred to by psychologists) in a way that imposed inferior qualities onto races other than the "arian" race, this doesn't mean that psychologists were behind it.
Besides, there are plenty of dodgy doctors around who are being arrested for malpractise today, and who were involved in the Nazi exerimentations on Jews and the disabled. Why don't you think the medical industry is evil?

As someone who has studied cognition and perception, I can safely say that this is most certainly an optical illusion.
This illusion is an example of what is called the ambiguous motion effect, which is caused by (as a couple of people have already mentioned) an absence of depth cues. Your brain will attempt to make sense of this image by selecting a random direction that you will percieve the figure to be rotating in, altough if you concentrate hard enough, you can change the percieved direction, or it can happen spontaneously. Most people probably percieve the image to be moving counter-clockwise because of the position of her feet or arms, which make one direction look a little more natural than the other.
As for the whole "right brain vs. left brain" claim, there is no such thing as dominance of either hemisphere of the brain over the other. This is just a theory that has been invented to try to explain individual differences in language ability, creativity etc..., and has no empirical evidence at all. Both sides of the brain are responsible for all of these abilities to a degree. While we may differ in our abilities and personalities, we all use both sides of our brains equally.
This is similar to the "we only use 10% of our brains" "theory", which is completely untrue. We absolutely use 100% of our brains, as MRIs would show. Have you ever heard of a person having a stroke and the doctor saying "oh not to worry, we only have tissue death in the 90% of the brain that the patient doesn't use!"?

I hate how rich idiots like to impose their human values on to their pets. This dog doesn't CARE about Louis Vuitton or Cartier! And why the HELL would you make a dog wear a bikini?!
And Nora, maybe people have the right to spend money on themselves any way they want, but to be heaping money onto your child as a replacement for love so that she ends up a spoiled brat with no sense of priority, the value of money, or helping the disadvantaged is just plain irresponsible.

Anyone who buys these really is pathetic. To take the symbol of your commitment for one another, and put a tacky brand name of a cartoon on it!
I know you could argue that Cartier and Tiffany & co. are brand names too, but at least they are brand names of jewellery.
And those Hello Kitty weddings? I can't believe someone would want two giant people in cat suits at their wedding and a brand name slapped all over it.
I mean I like, say Mario, but there aint no WAY I'm having mario's face on my wedding ring and two people in giant Mario and Luigi suits at my wedding, but that's just me.
Seriously, what is is with Japan and cartoons? Why must everything have cartoons on it? Chip packets, tissues, gum wrappers, and now wedding rings. Even some of the porn is cartoons. What is the deal?

Okay, and while we wait for the media to ban junk food advertising and the promoting of unhealthy body images (which would be great, but like that is going to happen any time soon), what's going to happen to these girls with anorexia? They could die within months. And do you really think that the moment the media restricts these things, anorexics will start eating, and obese people will adopt a healthier lifestyle?
You simplify the issue way too much. Social influences are only part of the problem. Anorexia is more about control and perfectionism than being thin. Obesity is largely influenced by our evolutionary preference for fatty and sweet foods that are now available to us in the Western world in excess. With or without advertising, people are always going to have access to and a desire to consume these foods. We can’t restrict availability of chocolates and sweets to the population. Some people develop behavioural habits over time so they lack the control (and sometimes the knowledge) to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Eating disorders aren’t a uniquely Westernised phenomenon either e.g., pica or night-eating disorder to name a few.
And what do you propose is the cultural solution to alcoholism? Banning alcohol? Do you understand the science of addiction?
And how do you propose we help people with, say, autism or Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome through cultural changes?
You speak of lobbying for an impossible utopia. You focus on the culture of the population but you forget about the individual.
Besides, I am a qualified psychologist, not a political lobbyist.

Well perhaps you'd better avoid me then Terry. I'm dangerous and will probably try to label and drug you with my "toxic medication", at least according to your information.
I’m a psychologist. I'm currently in training to council people with eating disorders, and alcohol and drug-related problems. I wish to help them stop these self-destructive behaviours so that they may lead healthier lifestyles and take the strain off their families and friends. I don't plan on recommending that anyone take drugs to treat these problems, in fact, I am focussed on taking their dependence off drugs. Do you think that makes me a bad person? If I’m doing “ok in life”, does that then qualify me to help people? Oh yeah, and I earn next to nothing.
Let me just say that what you've based your ideas on is a vicious and unreasonable attack on an industry that you can’t know as much about as you think you do. If you did, then your opinion would be very different.
