Huh?'s Comments

Not sure what this article is supposed to be pointing out. Seems like common sense to me. Most of the time the children of parents of the bottom quartile are able to move up. Most of the time the children of parents in the top quartile end up less well off. Becoming a millionaire is harder if you start off poor than if you start off wealthy.

Research was needed to find this?

I'm no fan of religious fanaticism, but I'm not aware of any efforts to stop this kind of research, just fetal stem cell harvesting. There. Your desired breakthrough has been achieved.

Though the recent battles in Wisconsin are mentioned, it should be noted that Walker did not "destroy" the unions. The law was changed so that union dues were not automatically deducted from the checks of certain workers. Anyone who wants to can still join the union and pay dues. The fact that so many workers decided just to keep that money for themselves when given a choice is definitely food for thought. If unions are so great, why did so many opt out when given a choice? Also, the linked article makes no distinction between public sector unions and private sector unions. Depending on your political views, one could argue that public sector unions in general might not be the best entities for ensuring most efficient use of taxpayer funds. To be sure, the recent happenings in Wisconsin are just round one in what is sure to be a protracted and heated battle as more states with budget concerns look at their own situations to see if cost savings can be achieved by passing similar legislation...

I think the facts of the article are fine. What needles me is the implication that the observed results are due solely to "racism" and the servers' "perceptions." If you are going to spend this much time and effort on such a study, it would be quite simple to collect a little more data and find the actual tipping values for each "group" you are observing. Then we could have actual science and not some kneejerk guilt trip waste of time. Of course, if you are not afraid to use some tortured logic, you can find injustices of all kinds under every rock.

Jeff I think you might be looking at this the wrong way.

If the parents are wealthy they likely have genes for intelligence and responsible behavior. Naturally their children will inherit the same genes.

You might find surprising and educational facts related to this by researching studies of twins raised apart.

I'm out of here. This site is no longer fun with so much political stuff on here. I am not particularly a fan of the current president, but this Stanhope guy has an agenda, and having someone else's politics thrust at me is not something I find entertaining. I took a long break from coming here, hoping all the other complaints I was reading concerning the political content would persuade those in charge to tighten up the format. From what I see today, I can only assume this site is now actually intended to have political content. It's a shame really, such a fun site before all this mess. I am thankful for the fun reading in the past, but I am gone.

@ I refuse to enable racism

I respect your opinion. I would say that a person would not feel so "befuddled" by evidence suggesting that there may be racial differences in intelligence if one is willing to actually accept that there may indeed be differences.

Look at all the new data coming out about epigenetics (just as an example, not as any kind of specific proof in this case). We are finding that in certain circumstances, creatures with identical genetic components can differentiate very , well, differently. Not only that, but sometimes these differences can affect one's offspring. I digress, but the point is, all races can still have roughly the same sequence of A's T's C's and G's yet still have noticeable differences. We still have quite a bit to learn about genetics, and I don't feel anything is proven either way.

I guess my comments were designed as social commentary directed at something which irks me personally, namely stubborn refusal on the part of some to even consider the subject with anything except self-righteous scorn, outright refusing to examine or address any of the considerable amount of data which suggests differences could exist.

As someone else has stated, I also am not a biologist or whatever scientist studies such things for a living. But it would be nice to see some credible science suggesting that there really are no differences in racial intelligence. Most of what I have seen from that camp does indeed smack of rationalization.

Cheers

Strange how so many people will bend over backward and go through all sorts of mental contortions to avoid suggesting that there could actually be some sort of evidence to support differences in intellectual ability among the races.

If there is absolutely no relationship, why has science got this so wrong?

Why would largely white groups of testmakers create tests that are biased towards Asians and Jews and against Blacks?

Must be another massive conspiracy...
