A Man's Comments

Professional cock-tease, more like it. As Dread rightly said; be honest about it. No position is non-sexual with a man lonely enough to pay for touch; be it elbow to elbow or scapula to ankle. This woman deludes herself.

The ACU pattern was the butt of a lot of jokes when I was in the Army, and we suspected at the time that it was selected for political reasons. It was just so wrong, and so obviously wrong, that it could only have been the product of some Pentagon level nepotism.

Regarding the violence(or lack thereof)of the "wild" West, check out "The Not So Wild, Wild West: Property Rights on the Frontier" by Terry L. Anderson and Peter J. Hill.

This is not in ANY WAY to be interpreted as a refutation of the horrible things that military life does to your back (the military has no regard for bodily limitations), bit it must be noted that back pain is A. hard to refute, and B. a way to get your VA benefits bumped over the 30% hump. For those of you who don't know, 30% disability is the "magic number" beyond which a soldier can expect to be taken care of, medically, by the VA, in perpetuity.

Let's say you got out for damaged feet. That's 10% disability.

Tinnitus? Everybody in my unit has hearing loss and ringing ears. That's another 10% disability.

Does your back hurt? Sure it does, we just cleaned out our connexes. Ding! 30% disability.

I'm not saying our backs don't hurt, and some guys are utterly screwed up by stupid feats of military manliness, but there is an economic incentive to fudge, and that skews the numbers now, and costs a hell of a lot down the road.

It's amazing how many vets get out with an exact 30% disability rating. I did.

It was apparent a priori that nobody commenting on this was going to budge their opinions on this one inch in light of the article itself.

In light of the expensive and elaborate cleanup cost of broken mercury bulbs, it would sure be a shame if people kept breaking them on the steps of congress until they got the message that these can be a giant, expensive hassle. Much like congress.

Arguing morals on the internet is less productive than sitting down together over a delicious pork roast, and discussing the issue person to person.

"And the angel of the Lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber, and took me on high,
and higher still until we moved in the spaces betwixt the air itself. And he bore me unto a vast farmland of our own midwest, and as we descended cries of impending doom rose from the soil. one thousand, nay, a million voices full of fear.

And terror possessed me then.

And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?"

And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots. You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust."

And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat
like the tears of one millions terrified brothers
and roared, "Hear me now, I have seen the light, they have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul. damn you! let the rabbits wear glasses,
save our brothers...can I get an amen? can I get a hallelujah?

This is a textbook example of linguistic inflation; the word rights applied to so many goods that the word has lost all meaning. I have a right to a ham sammich.

Of course, the UN never asks, "at whose expense?". What they are really saying is, that my money by rights belongs to the UN, not me, and they would like to see everyone have access to the internet enough that they are willing to rob me to fund that happy notion.

As an anarcho-capitalist, I define this as fraud, and therefore immoral. You freely contracted to the loan. The bank took on the disultility of not using their own capital for the period of the load, and you, in return, agreed to pay for the use of the capital with interest. Whether or not it benefits you, this is wrong.
