Why don't they spend their time designing useful food packaging instead of something that's going to cost them a lot of money for no good reason? All I ask is a fry container that keeps fries from getting cold and soggy/stale within 15 minutes, and I get this abomination instead.

What we surround children with has a huge affect on their adult interests. Surrounding your children in gender-specific materialism strikes me as a potentially handicapping behavior.

My favorite childhood "toy" was Elle - a full-size skeletal model that I still have. It's been creeping my friends out since I was six.

I have a mild version of this. It's funny when you rub the back of your neck and people start telling you, in a very alarmed tone, that you have some kind of rash.

@ ska: most people that develop this condition have very fair skin that doesn't tan

I'm not sure that I buy the story. That video had a few too many of the celebrities currently campaigning for Obama to have just been casually thrown together by unaffiliated parties. I would have actually liked it better if they had used normal people off the streets instead of celebrities in studios.

Of course it's two sandwich halves stacked on top of each other, a human being would need a hinged jaw to get their entire mouth around that thing. Which would be awesome to see, by the way. Personally, it's too much meat. I need a little variety in my sandwiches.

There's compelling research to show that the Y chromosome is naturally evolving itself out, so this is actually GOOD news for men. The Y chromosome carries comparatively few genes and is made stronger by extensive crossing over. If scientists can genetically select for 'stronger' Y chromosomes, the survival of the sex can be ensured.
I don't think I could stomach a world dominated by women. Well, that and I have to actually climb on top of the kitchen counter to reach the top shelf... it's easier to just have a guy do it

I couldn't do it... I mean, I could do it to somebody else, but I would never let somebody do it to me. Which is probably why I chose neuro over genetics... the idea of self-harvested organs is a little far-fetched for me. I've seen mice with human-looking ears growing on their backs and it's just too weird. A body part from a petri dish is one thing, but growing something on your person for transplant...

This type of test is usually done by first anesthetizing the animal and then placing a small piece of paper in a known concentration of acid and then placing the paper on the skin (for pain tolerance, this is typically the inner thigh or lower back). A reaction is observed for speed and intensity. The acid concentrations increase gradually and immediately after reaction, the acid is neutralized with bicarbonate. Any potential burn areas are salved and dressed before allowing the anesthesia to wear off. Though attempts are made to not cause any burns, it still happens occasionally. It's a typical laboratory experiment and, in the grand scale of laboratory experiments, is minimally harmful.

It's even more frightening when you understand exactly what they're saying. The process diagrams for HIV infection and DNA integration in virology textbooks are usually a full page, but this is by far the best animation I've seen of the process

I find the entire message of this video disturbing - "Hey, look, this lion is just a big version of your house cat! Go rub its belly and see what happens". Those people with the "cat toy" deserve to be mauled for their stupidity. Antagonizing a wild animal that way serves no zoological purpose. We keep feral animals in captivity for educational and conservational purposes, not for entertainment.

Cute. Neurobiologically accurate. They even differentiated between channels and G-protein linked receptor proteins. It does support the theory that lab people have very strange ways of expressing creativity.

I think it has a lot to do with what kind of person you are. I'm a modern city-dweller. If I had to live in the sticks for any period of time, I'd be seriously considering throwing myself off of a bridge. 7 out of the 10 are metropolitan cities which makes me think the list-makers have a skewed perspective as to exactly what makes people miserable. Misery for me is living more than ten minutes drive from a 24-hour diner/grocery/drugstore. Being mugged in a dark alley is a chance I'm willing to take for pancakes at 3am.
