Thats my friend Andrew in the picture! He's studying abroad in Stockholm, and told me about the experiment yesterday. Now he keeps popping up all over the internet!
whats wrong with copying a character? putting them in a new universe and exploring other possibilities? I think copyright law is BUNK. I'm an artist and freely share everything I create; all of creativity and imagination have been and will remain open for everyone to use and share.
I agree with DOJ. Where was the sample taken? Was it spread out across the country? Or concentrated in one or two schools? Again, where is the science?
I absolutely HATE surveys like this one. They always end up stating some "Fact" about we lowly citizens that was either absolutely obvious, or flat out ridiculous. I've never believed that surveys can ever accurately represent a population (especially when those surveyed are just a tiny fraction of the total population). Plus who would take this seriously if they were in highschool? Would any one of you actually accurately portray yourself in this survey if youre in 5th period English and the teacher whips out another sheet of paper and says "Now class, we are going to take a survey. It is not graded." ???? I mean come awn.
while Gallagher may be the center of this particular story, he is by no means original. I have been 'chalking' for quite some time now (and take most of my inspiration from Keith Harring) and a number of friends of mine have been outlining shadows in chalk for some time.
nice to see some more publicity on the topic, but i cant help but cringe at the line "shadow art was born".
I get so angry whenever I see calvin "praying" in front of a cross plastered on some SUV with plates that say "lv4jsus". I have to physically remove myself from the area, lest I bash in the cars windows. I always walk away mumbling to myself "did those people even ACTUALLY READ calvin and hobbes? Do they have any idea what kind of child calvin is?" sure its possible that calvin is religious, but there's no way he'd ever willingly attend church until he was at least in his 20's. and even then he'd definitely attend a very liberal, open minded organization.
I own stock in GM and have lost over 7,000$ the past year alone. I say NO BAILOUT. Yeah, I'll lose money. Yeah, I've lost money (a lot of money, not just in GM stock but others as well) but this just does not make any sense whatsoever.
While i do have sympathy for the workers and all those around them--EVERYONE is suffering from the current state of the economy. Trying to put a bandaid on a hemorrhaging, gaping wound does not work. I dont have the answers, but neither does anybody else. Just because the bailout is the only current answer doesnt mean its the right one.
It would possibly have been interesting if it werent trying to sell "something" (however ambiguous that 'something' may have been). If it had been a purely artistic endeavor it would have garnered my respect.
