@Vonskippy

What's to buy? What am I giving up simply by being on Facebook? The only thing social networking is selling is its audience; they are selling my page views to the advertisers.

And since your comment was a troll in the first place, I'll go on to say that you obviously don't understand the point of social networking. Sure maybe some people get off on having the most friends or joining the most clubs or whatever, but they're going to do that sort of thing whether or not there are online sites for it. I don't think that anyone confuses online social networking with real-life face to face social networking, AKA making friends, chilling out, or doing any of the endless activities that people do together.

Except you.

@Becki: There's a fundamental difference between the way this item was presented here and the way it might be presented on a more "depraved" site. The contributor made it clear that this was an upsetting piece, and the tone was one of sympathy and sorrow, not "OMFG you gotta see this weirdo! lol"

Yes, it would be wrong to call this "neat" but that wasn't the intent of the post. Whether or not something that isn't neat should be featured on Neatorama is a different argument which I won't go into except to say that I am fine with posts like this as long as they are presented with tact, as was the case here.

Olga - Classical Gas

and I agree with Cuimhne. If you're going to make a pointing coming to life the main attraction of your media, you should have it do more than just wiggle around. It might fit in nice in a sort of virtual museum where many paintings and sculptures have been animated like that though.

Please don't link to games at collection sites like this one (ebaumsworld, i-am-bored.com, etc). Usually they have stolen the games from the rightful author and have put them on their own page to generate ad revenue without giving credit or payment to the original author.

If there's a game you feel is Neatorama-worthy, it is usually quite simple to locate the original author's site. Usually there will be a website listed somewhere within the game. In this case it's visible in the lower right corner -- gamedesign.jp, which happens to be one of my favorite game authors (if you want a new obsession, try playing dicewars). If the website can't be found in the game, google will often help, or try searching reputable game-review sites (such as jayisgames.com)

From the militantplatypus.com Games page: All games were found freely on the internet
If you are the owner of a game and would like it removed, please email me at info@militantplatypus.com

Militantplatypus all but admits to "finding" games that people have posted on their own sites, copying them to his own site and hoping that they don't notice.

Like I said before, gamedesign.jp is one of my favorite game authors, and it frustrates me to see other people get Diggs and ad revenue for his hard work.

If you have access to the scientific journal Applied Physics Letters (through a university or other subscription), there is a neat article by some scientists who have recently managed to recreate the Fibonacci spiral pattern by self-assembly in the laboratory. They suggest it comes about as a result of energy minimization on the surface of a cone, which is why it would appear so often in nature (less energy spent growing = more energy devoted to survival).

With the rapid advance of technology, it seems inevitable that many major sports will someday split into 2 classes -- high-performance leagues (enhanced by artificial body parts, steroids, and the like) and traditional leagues, embraced by "purists," with the former likely created by people like Pistorius who get fed up with the restrictions of leagues like the Olympics.

What will be interesting to see is if the purists will allow technological enhancements that are currently accepted, such as Gatorade.
