I didn't read the article, but I imagine that there are three main reasons to this:
1) People feel less comfortable with the semicolon and therefore use it less. This results in it leaving "Standard English" bit by bit, much like "whom."
2) People replace the semicolon and use the dash - like this - to express themselves, which is more visible and appears to have become the Swiss Army knife of punctuation marks.
3) Writing for the web demands that we use more simple sentence constructions that will be more easily read. This in and of itself means that we see less and less of the semicolon, which leads to an exacerbation of point 1)...

Some people are seriously and sometimes dangerously allergic to pot. It can cause a lot of things from panic attacks to seizures. I don't think it's funny and I don't think those kids got what they deserved. In my mind, although I'm completely for the legalization of all marijuana products, what they did was poison someone.

I enjoyed this. I've never spent any time around children, so his antics were very entertaining. I didn't know kids were so talkative even before they learn to talk.
Also, I used to work for a cable company's phone service, and that is EXACTLY how the calls go.

I highly doubt that it is something as well documented as anorexia, not only because of the peculiarity of it, but also her apparent willingness to demonstrate the peculiarity. I mean, anorexia is not about displaying weirdisms, it's about hiding them.
Anyway it could be a psychosomatic illness, but if it is, it's coming from something more deep and more traumatizing than body image.

This looks like Photoshop 101 to me, but maybe I'm missing something.
If my boyfriend "gave" me that I would probably punch him in the nuts.

The best part is his face @ 21 seconds. I watched it about ten times and it never got old.

It's awesome that nerds' love for gadgets help further the ends of many people with disabilities... although I'd much rather have a Professor X chair than a chairbot.

Too bad he isn't grinning in that picture; you'd be able to see his straight, sparkling white teeth to go along with the rest of the package.
