Yeah, Solo nailed it. The model is misleading and actually incorrect.
Kids are taught the Rutherford atomic model early on, because it's easy to comprehend. A clear analogy to the earth and the moon can be drawn. But it's wrong.
Later, students learn other atomic models such as Bohr's, but they're just models. They can accurately describe what happens to a point, but they're not actually what's happening by a long shot.
What's actually going on is way more mind-boggling than "there's a lot of space in an atom."

I like the song, but that version sucked.

It doesn't do the two main things I look for in a tent. Keep out bugs and keep out rain.
It's a cool idea, but that's not something you could go camping with.

So why is it genius?

"Most lightning bolts carry a negative charge, but 'bolts from the blue' have a positive charge, carry as much as 10 times the current, are hotter and last longer."
That's not true. Lightning can strike cloud to ground, cloud to cloud, or ground to cloud. Therefore, depending on how you measure the current, you can get a positive or negative number.
However, that current is always electrons flowing, the -/+ sign is just a way of saying which way those electrons are going. Therefore, lightning bolts themselves are always negatively charged. A positively charged lightning bolt would mean protons are flowing (which they don't do).

You know what else they could do? Just make the kids wear t-shirts all day with the word "POOR" written across them in huge letters.
They could just assualt children with outstanding debt. Gangs seem to find that effective, and it's probably less psychologically damaging than the original plan.
Or they could just round up the poor children and make them wear a special symbol like a star or triangle. That worked out well in the past.
That is the worst idea in a long time.

At least in Army basic training, soldiers eat from regular cafeteria-style trays, plates, bowls, and silverware. I imagine it's more economical.

pld, what makes your girlfriend an expert on that?

"The mental image we have of nucleus = planet and electron = moon is very unfitting."
