There's bacteria and then there's bacteria. Fecal matter is extremely dangerous, even to the person who created it, depending on the bacteria and any illness.
While our corporate tax rate may be higher, what is actually paid is much lower. I work in a field wherein I regularly see how the wealthy and large corporations avoid paying their share of taxes.
How does 12% having saved $250,000 apply to the -.01% of the population who would actually be wealthy. Sorry, no, having $250,000 to $500,000 is not wealthy. Most people who make in the upper five digits could conceivably have that much to invest depending on where they live and how they spend their money. They are definitely not wealthy.
And the reason I don't bother telling you how I feel is because you obviously have an agenda and you have no intention about listening. You don't dialogue, you monologue.
And now you're being ridiculous in comparing the Soviet Union to a socialized democracy. A far better example would be many European countries, especially the Scandinavian ones. They are high on the happiness list, their economies are mostly stable (Iceland is now in recovery from buying in to the insanity of allowing too free an economy), and few people fall through the cracks. Nothing was said about seizing property or assets. And someone with $500k to invest is not really wealthy in the current economy. You're comparing the working upper middle class to the wealthy, two highly different strata. However, these people would most likely not have had the chance to succeed in most other countries, and one pays for that privilege by paying one's fair share in taxes.
Corporate taxes have dropped by more than 50%, how far should we cut them. You're comments make clear that you have not really studied the last several decades effects of laissez faire that government has allowed corporations. It does not work. It has never worked. Many countries have much higher corporate taxes than the U.S. We are on the low end.
I've come across one roundabout, but apparently it didn't work well, because there are now stop signs controlling two directions of the four, but they didn't remove the roundabout, so it seems to be a way to slow traffic through the intersection.
They dropped driver's ed in the high schools here, but they require professional teaching, so it's $500+ each for my kids to get their training and required time.
It was the Black Death that helped break the system of feudalism (I know, I know, people are questioning the whole feudal thing, but it's shorthand, okay). The loss of so many laborers increased the value of those that survived, and they were able to obtain freedoms, including the right to sell their labor and skills to whom they chose, as a result.
The huge availability of minimally skilled labor in foreign countries has allowed companies to kill jobs here, forgetting that if people are unemployed they aren't going to be able to purchase all those wonderful items made by foreign-based slave labor. Shortsightedness by corporations and the government has allowed this to happen. Unless we go to a taxation system that penalizes offshoring jobs, and rewards companies that develop real jobs here, we are on the way to a collapse that will make the Great Depression look like the Reagan recession.
What is the problem with redistributing some of the wealth? No one becomes wealthy in a vacuum, despite their claims. Most of the wealthy in the U.S. inherited most of their wealth, so it's not as if they're great innovators. They are very good at using government money (your taxes and mine) to increase their wealth, including government-backed loans (which they often default on), tax breaks, loopholes in the tax code, etc.
We are a society, and we succeed or fail based on the strength of that society. We are not islands that happen to share an archipelago.
There are several issues with the treatment of autistic kids. There is still a huge percentage of psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, teachers, etc. who believe that all autistic children have low IQs and should be steered into institutions or special education with a view to pushing the child into a low-paying, simple job.
Another issue is ABA. This type of therapy often frustrates autistics who are bright but have difficulty communicating. Autism Speaks is a big supporter of this therapy, despite it being shown to help very few autistics.
Another issue is that it's very common for educators to jump on the latest bandwagon and attempt to apply the latest and greatest to autistic students.
So, actually, there's on big issue: every autistic is different, just like us.
Isn't it amazing how focused Christians are on sex. I don't remember reading anything about Jesus getting all stirred up over obscene graffiti, or porn, which any child could have seen.
I'm trying to remember my history class from decades ago on the 20s, so bear with me. Stockings were held up by garters around the leg, and could fall easily during strenuous activity. Flappers dancing wildly often had their stockings fall (which later led to the introduction of the garter belt), showing off their knees as they danced.
Previous generations of women had been constricted by corsets, which often contained metal supports; long, leg-tangling skirts; clothing fit tight to the body, which often restricted arm movement; long hair which could fall easily unless care was taken. The rolled-down stockings with the bare knees were a symbol of freedom for the flappers; they made clear that these were women who were not going to be constricted or restricted.
