i was expecting real amputees more than movie characters and what not. there are a lot of other inspiring, accomplished amputees in the world that could have easily made that list. also, putting an led in a prosthetic eye is super easy, really...an led requires little power and tiny ones are super cheap. small cameras are expensive and require both higher power levels and a device to record video or some way to transmit the data to a memory bank.

i enjoy the term "arbitrarily high speeds"

i am going to go beyond the displeasure already expressed in these comments and allude to my larger quam with jazzy science: in these sorts of theories extrapolations are made upon extrapolations all in the name of government grants and publicity.

dark energy? we have extrapolated it's possible existence based on ponderings of dark matter. we believe that dark matter might exist based on the fact that by our calculations there isn't as much observable matter in the universe as there should be. we think we know how much matter there should be based upon another forumla. this stuff snowballs out of control all throughout the scientific community. string theory is an mathematical extrapolation with no actual evidence; even the big bang theory, which is probably the most widely believed theory in the world, is based off of very little actual evidence.

evolution ironically is backed by so much evidence if you could put the physical mass of it into one big lump it would be small mountain.

i support darkhorse theories, steady state for one, not because they have a ton of evidence themselves, but because their rival theories are often baseless. i even think the expanding earth theory has merit...and most people think that stuff is ridiulous.

soo tired of banksy. conceptual artist for the stoner high school douche bags of the world.

"banksy's stuff is so cool. he is such a great graffiti artist. i love all of his anti-war stuff. have you seen the video of him sneaking a painting into a museum?"

i mean srsly, either learn to paint well or join the cast of jackass with johnny knoxville. i love johnny knoxville btw and i also used to be a graffiti artist....so i guess what it is i despise about this dude is that he is famous for something he is not the inventor of, the best at, or an inovator in, while lots of other people do it well.

i got a ton of tagger friends who put their stuff up on facebook

as long as you don't say you did it, if the police knock down yer door you can counter sue and make sure the cops don't get any new patrol cars for a few years.

yes, the early episode where the crew unthaws cryogenically frozen people from 20th century earth is a good example of an episode where picard addresses the differences between our modern world and that of star trek's future. one of the people unthawed was a businessman and he has trouble coming to grips with the lack of finances in the future. they also have trouble restraining themselves from disobeying the orders they are politely aske to follow. you never really think about the fact that on the enterprise, you can go anywhere and talk over the intercom without any passwords or keys until this episode. on the subject of money, i feel that it is important to realize that the majority of what happenes in star trek is essentially military operations. on a modern battleship people eat food in a mess hall and money is not really as relevant as it is in civilian cities. i think it might be possible that on earth,in star trek, civilians still trade money for goods. replicators might be able to make standard things, but could they create a stylish new dress? you would still need a designer to create the concept. occasionally you also hear people complain that certain dishes aren't prepared as well via replicator as the ones prepared by hand. in regard to the holodeck and it's infinite possibilites, one might reference other works of science fiction which dwell on the idea of simulated realites. a highly resolute person would seem to often conclude that it is better to toil for the sake of others in reality than delude yourself in falacies. weaker people might become immersed but star trek often refers to the humans of it's age as being wiser than this.

i'm a dork.
