I had both of my kids at home, and joked all the time that my husband better beef up, since you never know... He didn't think it was as funny as I did.

It's worth noting that in England, where this story took place, midwives actually work for the hospitals, and do homebirths as hospital employees, unlike here in the states. If you want a homebirth here, you have to navigate all the different state laws about midwifery, licensing, insurance, etc. It makes continuity of care so much easier for the family if there is a teamwork between hospitals and homebirth midwives, should anything (such as this) arise.

I know they have the little "We don't differentiate between different types of sugar" note, but I really wish they would have a blurb about how your body needs healthy sugars, and that the idea is to feed your body what it needs, not all the other crap. If you take the sugar out of soda and replace it with splenda, it is still crap for your body.

I've known two adults in my area who used expressed breastmilk as part of their cancer treatment. I don't know if they used a relative's breastmilk, or anonymous donors, but I don't see it as that strange at all. Treating cancer usually takes multiple drugs, treatments, and methods, most of which are targeted at poisoning and killing the unhealthy cells. Why not also boost the healthy ones, and give the body building blocks for growth? We see breasts as sexual objects in our culture, and surely that is one of their roles, but they are also functional, and in this case, may have helped save a life. It seems immature to me to overlook this because they are boooobies. Good luck to this family, and maybe this story will get enough OMGZ coverage to reach a few people that it will help.

Another example of the squeakiest wheel. Yes, there are out of control kids and parents who need to get a grip, but the vast majority of us are able to raise our children to be kind, polite, well behaved people (without corporal punishment! Oh the wonders!)

I don't know - one really insane landlord will ruin the whole renting experience. Also, I had lousy luck getting repairs and updates done to apartments and rentals I have lived in, which made it hard to have any say in how energy efficient my home was.

Bethswan, I see what you are saying, but this is a case where I think the risks of driving while the baby cries in the backseat (and you just grit your teeth and keep your hands on the wheel) far outweigh the benefit of trying to juggle a baby in your lap while driving, knowing that the smallest fenderbender will kill him. (Many) laws are there for a good reason, and as sympathetic as I am that I do not know this mom's situation, the fact that she blatantly says that she will endanger her child's life again? Is not sympathetic, it's just stupid.

Thank you for Johnny Cat. I did need that.

And SenorMysterioso, those other ads were so strange before they got to the mimes, but then there were MIMES and it fell straight off the edge of strange into WTF land.

Of course once I clicked through I saw that she is faced with jail time/fines. I hope it also means that child protective services will keep an eye on her kids.

How does this woman justify endangering her babies life like this? Wow. I breastfeed my children, but I also know that they won't starve in the 15 minutes it takes to drive across town. Crying because they are hungry is a lot better than crying because they are seriously injured (or worse).

If a mother can be charged with manslaughter for her child's death due to an improperly installed carseat (like in Spokane WA), then this woman deserves charges of her own. Endangering a child, if nothing else.
