Europe will see this, but not the US?

Why is it we tend to get bloated fuel swillers?

My neighbor has a 1982 diesel Isuzu pick up truck, was also available as a Chevrolet LUV, it is worth a mint because it is small, economical, well built and well designed.

I don't need a huge Dodge Crew Cab with four inch exhaust pipes, thank you.

Three hundred million guns. Most are in the hands of people who won't shoot you.

Seattle has a landmark library. It is glass, and beautiful. They put in an "Up" escalator that rises majestically through to the 9th floor. Due to budgetary constraints, they did not install a "Down" escalator, so you get to queue up at one of the few elevators, or take the rather unimpressive fire stairs back down. A classic case of function following form. A rather boring and much cheaper conventional building would have been adequate and they could have afforded a "Down" escalator.

My fourth grade teacher Mr. Simpson, freshly returned from a stint serving in the Viet Nam war, would often take our class on "nature walks" around our suburban school on beautiful sunny days.

Once the administration became aware of these walks, they put the kibosh on them, insisting that each child's parents sign a consent form and waiver prior.

Since it is difficult to detect well in advance what the weather is going to be, and since those children whose parents did not sign the waivers had to stay at the school and be tended by a second teacher...the nature walks ceased.

Another innocent, innocuous activity strangled by a bureaucracy and the liability lawyers.

It is so nice to know that Congress has voted to pay each furloughed employee as if they had worked during this period of inactivity.

When I don't work, I don't get paid.

It stinks. We are not being served by our public servants.

Time to start firing the non essential public employee?

I hired a guy to tape and mud the sheetrock in my basement. He left one of the screw heads exposed. When I pointed it out to him, he let me know that he does that on each job. "It gives people something to focus on, and they don't feel the need to nitpick the balance of the work".
