I was born and raised in Glasgow so from an early age was very familiar with the coat of arms and less so with the legends, which have never made any sense.

the coat of arms rerads like a testament to failure.

Here is the bird that never flew
Here is the tree that never grew
Here is the bell that never rang
Here is the fish that never swam
Mungo was meant to have brought a wee bird back from the dead, some old nonsense about usign a tree to make a fire not go out and somehow this was the tree not growing...creative accountancy if nothing else.
The bell I don't understand at all, as it was meant to be from rome...but was mute.
And the fish who retrieved the ring of some queen accused of putting it about a bity.
Now the repeated stuff about how each never did what it was meant to has always struck me as guff, as in most instances they did, and the rest it didn't seem to matter.
I like it all though as it says something about the deliberately contrary nature of a lot of Glaswegians.
my dear green place indeed.

I think it is the Ainu who are much hairier than the japanese, and in times of yore the Ainu womentattooed moustaches on to enhance their attractiveness.

Why do you think there are so many illegal immigrants in the USA?
Because it has been kept that way since time immemorial.
If you have a large unskilled workforce wjho can come and do the jopb for a fraction of the cost then this is seen as a ghreat thing in business circles.
It is even better when they are illegal, so you can force down the low wages and remove any rights, also you get to operate out side of health and safety parameters, thus saving even more.
And when thisngs go sour, tyhrow the work force away.
Anyone beginning to see that their own working situation in the US is drifting towards that?
See when you have illegals, then it presures legal workers too.
But instead of speaking out against the owners and investors in these schemes racist mouth breathers ,who I have read on here time and again, rail against the illegals.
Talk about missing the bloody point.
See dummy, the GMC parts factory that closes down and moves to mexico so they can operate a dangerous plant in a 3rd world counrty, that's the idea, go and bust a Mexicans about the head.
here's an inspired idea, point your anger at those doing the screwing, not the omnes who are getting screwed even worse than you.
Do sopmething practical. Stop buying GMC cars, stop buying NIkes made by child labour in the 3rd world.
Stop supporting companies who have screwed your own countrymen out of their jobs and in many cases pensions.
Blaming a small minoritiy for the woes of your nation has a poor track record,

oh and as for cost.... has no one ever heard of the law of supply and demand? or the idea of economies of scale?
When you make manuy of a thing the unit price is lower as the start up costs are divided.
There is the demand here in Europe, at leat, for these cars, and VW are keen to fulfill that with a supply.

I love the idea that a Hummer would crush it, like a hummer was some sort of mecha godzilla.
It's made of carbon fibre and is light so it is obviously weak.
A magnesium steerign wheel is a fire hazard.
The lack of understanding of material sciences displaayed here beggars credence.
Magnesium castings are not flammable.
Carbon fibre cars don't even deform, they don't need to.
Also, the feeble nit picking about the lights don't wiork , where's the window, the wipers are bust.....good gravy fellas, it's the prototype.
Most P-type cars don't even have lights or any of the other things until they go into full production.
And as for a lack of a window....100kms to a LITRE of fuel....gets some perspective.
I think it is safe to say that this is pretty much the future of cars.

yeah that was the name of the place. I only ever went in there to Daimaru, so to my mind they were synonymous.

The House of Tudor did this with a Swan as the outer bird, finishing with a song thrush.
And they didn't invent it, it was an old idea even then.

Now I lived in Melbourne for nearly 7 years and don't recall ever seeing these.
But with a bit of logical thought... if you think of it as being that the centre lights are for the trams and the others are for the cars the whole thing is a lot simpler than it looks.
A lot simpler than tryng to describe the Melbourne Hook Turn.
