I am saddened that someone who brokered pleasure and companionship was persecuted to this extent.
At best, she was given five years in prison for providing a safe environment where women earn and men find comfort. At worst, she was killed to save the reputation of one of those who accepted her services.
As much as I hate this type of post. Someone has to say it. If you want us to care, you have to tell us why we should care.
An elitist magazine posts a fake elitist article so that another elitist dingbat can say he pulled off the elitist equivalent of a pantsing. Now we can all enjoy this rarefied air by using this tool.
"Art" does not refer to the item of observation. It is not just in the eye of the beholder. It belongs to the experience that is initiated by the artist and shared by the audience.
A painting is just an illustration unless it causes the observer to experience something internally. Great art moves everyone who see it.
While this is not great art, I was moved by the experience of viewing it.
35 years ago, when I wanted work, I could go to the town's job center and hang out with the rest of the unemployed teenagers waiting for someone to need day laborers. Usually it was farmers needing help with detasseling.
My senior year in college, the cattle call that was job placement looked a lot like this film: suits and hard shoes but young, eager faces.
After I got laid off, company lobbies reminded me of the experience except the faces showed little hope and no enthusiasm.
The only way to change the cycle is to get your own clients and when you get enough work, fill *your* lobby with prospects.
