Jason that's just the point- They don't have a calender or clock- they live in the here and now, with only general non-specified past beyond a few days and general non-specified future beyond a fwe days or just as many seasons. That is specific enough for them.

Vonskippy here in Europe we have complete shows that are just filled filled with car-cam recordings from the cop-cars that show such arrests and busts by US-cops that to us Europeans are completely uncomprehensible, unfathomable and downright mad.
Dhubai isn't by far the only "stone-age" country where they arrest people for touching between male and female in public- About the whole of the Muslim world has that.
They on the other hand consider most Western countries completely and fully out of control De-civilized / Degenerated / Sodom and Gomorrah / Babylon / Stone-Age because we accept open drunkennness, open nudity, touching and so on.
They do not think that love is a bad thing- they only have strict ideas on how to behave civilized and not offending others by things as public touching in public.
If you do not want to conform- Just do not visit. It isn't like there's no way to know this in advance.
If you know your friend or your grandma or who-ever does not like you using faul language and taking in dirt into their houses or into the church or whatever- you do the polite thing: You take off your dirty shoes before you enter the house and you mind your tonge. Otherwise you do not pay that visit. And if you by accident make a mistake and they correct you on your mistakes- you will have the desency to apologise and to accept the correction, otherwise you leave.

Intellectual tattoo....
Among several ohers, I also have a big totally continuous triskele widely overlapping one of my shoulderblades. I'd like to someday somewhere add a möbius-strip- possibly around my upper arm, combined with an infinite-sign (the lemniscate) and done in some celtic style.
...But I'm not really sure I would see my tattoos as "intellectual"...

So Vonskippy that means that one does not want to visit countries like the US where you get fines for crossing the streets by foot without minding the traffic lights. Where you can get sued for millions of dollars if you say the wrong things to the wrong people. Where you get handcuffed and thrown in jail if you are not fast enough in abeying state troopers and so on...?

Sorry Max- You lost me completely with your explanation.
I guess we're both speaking from a totally differentworld, since I cannot in the faintest see what perhaps eating your neighbour in times of disaster has to do with this guy that puts bacon on a machinegun.
For the latter I see a parallel with the folks who put food in alufoil on their car-engines while going out on long trips and I only commented that this guy not by a long shot wast the first- I am a European who on a regular bases uses a Minimi and before that a MAG and we've learn't that funny-field-trick from the guys in the platoon that came before us.
I only went against the US-Bashers around here because I get pretty sick about bashing any group for any kind of in my view misplaced stereotyping.

Felix I guess Jollyboy, MadMolecule and shywarrior lived there but during their visits never learnt to properly read Japanese, Russian or Japenrish...
But there is a clue: "Maybe some places are not very welcoming to stranger but most of the time it's places we should avoid anyway (unless you like the company of Yakuza and local criminals)" - As long as one stays properly hided within the tourist-places, never outside the environment of Western diplomatic hideouts and always accompanied by a nice official Japanese interpretor / guide, one will never ever stumble upon such unpleasantries of any society...
