Interesting. Another thing to be aware of is the fact that food allergies/intolerance can develop and worsen as you get older.

And parents! Remember this when your child has trouble drinking their milk at dinner time! As a child I was forced to finish my milk every night despite my complaints. It turns out I suffered from mild lactose intolerance. When I hit my 20s, though the severity increased exponentially though. Before I just had trouble drinking milk or eating too much ice cream. Now even eating milk chocolate or makes me ill. :( Thank god for Lactaid!

When I saw the name in the headline, I was like, "Oh yeah, the railroad spike-in-the-head guy."

I have heard this guy's story a half a million times between college, books and the internet. Seriously. This is slightly disturbing to me for some reason...

While I drink certain teas brewed from a bag at home, I absolutely cannot stand green tea brewed from a bag. I work in a Japanese restaurant where we use loose-leaf green tea, and I assure you, there is NO comparison between loose-leaf and tea-bagged green tea--even imported green tea. The quality of what is in tea bags is god-awful in comparison to what you find in airtight, light-proof packaged loose tea. I've even cut open tea bags of various brands of green tea, and never have I found what looks like what I know to be "green tea".

Love it. I just had a conversation about this at work today: "When are we gonna start saying 'twenty' instead of 'two thousand'?" Regardless, I am in agreement with the site http://www.2000nottwenty.com/ . There is no "wrong" way to say it. I mean really, as long as it is accurate (numerically) a number is a number.

You don't hear people arguing about this when talking about prices, do you?
"How much?"
"Fifteen hundred, fifty dollars."
"Don't you mean one thousand, five hundred and fifty dollars?"
Pointless. I say, go with whatever feels most comfortable on your tongue.

Hahaha, if you watch the video linked from the guy's blog, the neighbor sticks a sign in his window: "Sorry - It looked real!"

And to be fair, if the guy was assembling the toy, from the neighbor's vantage point, it would look a bit suspect. A guy sitting alone in an office, fiddling with a handgun? If I saw something like that, I'd probably notify the authorities too; imagine if you ignored it and later learned the guy went on an office shooting spree?

As a server/bartender, I thank my lucky stars that I live in Oregon where I am paid a legitimate wage (granted it is minimum, but Oregon has a decent minimum wage). I think it is f-ed up that in most states waitstaff is paid dirt, because it assumes that customers ALWAYS tip a certain amount. What it comes down to is that (in those states), whether or not a server is tipped, the server is still taxed as though they received a tip, so when people do not tip, or leave a poor tip, it is in a way costing that server money. Which is entirely unfair. But bear in mind, the servers did not create the situation, the state did.

That said, I believe if you cannot afford the tip, you can't afford to eat out. Go to a buffet or McDonald's, where you don't have someone running around catering to your every demand.

Yes, sometimes you get sub-par service and that (in my opinion) is worthy of a sub-par tip (less than 15%), but the situation was clearly handled poorly by the customers. And let's be honest, we don't know exactly what was going on in the restaurant that night, so we can't know all the specifics of the situation, and regardless, a 0% tip (in our culture) is entirely uncalled for. The bottom line is that some things are beyond a server's control. A waitress cannot help how fast the kitchen works, and some people drink an entire soda in less than 30 seconds, so refills can be impossible to keep up with at times. So... I say cut the waitstaff a little slack because we don't know exactly what kind of customer those college students were.
