So you've talked to your children about how they have to be careful around strangers but even though they're scared you make them go sit on a strange man's lap?

As a professional librarian, I would be embarassed to offer a pregnant woman seeking information on pregnancy and childbirth books such as the one pictured. (Which is why when I go into work tomorrow I'll make sure I don't have a copy lurking on my library shelves!) It is not book burning nor censorship when librarians remove outdated books. There is only so much room on the library shelves and books that are outdated, falling apart, or are not receiving enough use are "weeded" to make room for the newly written, up to date, or more popular books.

That doesn't mean that there isn't a place for some of these books. Many larger public libraries, university libraries and the Library of Congress keep many older, outdated books for the purpose of historical significance or tracking societal trends. Most public libraries are not archives. They do not have that mission nor the space or funds to do so.

Couldn't this really be considered their hobby? Some people choose to spend their time and energy tracking sports teams, some play mindless flash games online, and some people go to what many of us consider extreme looking for ways to save money. If that's how they want to spend their time - I say go for it.

I'd never thought about cutting the lotion containers open. I wash out my ziplock bags and reuse my paper grocery bags to get the 5 cent refund. I'm sure these are things that other people feel are a waste of time but are habit to me.

Yeah, this one doesn't come off too great with the rather offensive to transsexuals lead-in. You have to get into the article to find all the weird but true and amazing things about Minnesota.

And I'm sure that the reason transsexuals stay in Minnesota is the reason that many other groups stay. We have lots to offer. Great educational opportunities, a vibrant arts and culture scene, recreation around every corner, low crime, low pollution, friendly people, great libraries. The list goes on and on.
