I don't know about anyone else but I'm tired of the people in power telling us everything that happens with a negative attasched is our (the public) fault. We don't have sufficient public transportation, they continue to allow building of homes and business without regard to infrastructure and utility use, they haven't been working on alternative fuel and power sources and now we (the public) are suffering and blamed for the problem. We don't have a say other than electing politicians that cater to the special interests that include big oil, the utilities, and the car manufacturers. Yeah it's all my fault because I don't live next door to my job, within walking distance to the stores I frequent and when I do have to go any distance ride a bike.

hessi, take off your rose colored glasses. We live in a dangerous world where children are harmed. No not every child but every day. It's up to responsible parents to protect your children and nine is way too young to go out into the world alone. If you think today is no different from 30 years ago you're not paying attention. This kid may have the skills to navigate but not the skills to protect himself from the unexpected, not necessarily just predators.

" Studies show that Daylight Savings Time's effect on energy consumption is at best negligible and possibly counterproductive." What a waste. Who lives their modern life by the sun? We are a twenty-four hour a day society and DST doesn't do anything practical. It's an antiquated system that needs to be abandoned.

Homeschooling could not be any worse than the public schools here in California. Half the students can't speak English, the classrooms are overcrowded, the administration hogties the teachers ability to teach with too much unnecessary paperwork and oversight and most parents are uninvolved. Still I would hope that homeschooled kids would have credentialed people teaching them.

Any personel quota in the workplace leads to problems. Passing over a more qualified employee in favor of the quota is bad business. These socialist politicians, regardless of country, are going to be the downfall of capitalism. You can't succeed while trying to be politically correct. Isn't it hard enough to deal with nepotism and favoritism in the workplace? Maybe all these women just need to start more of their own companies.

Most of you give Adam Shepard no credit whatsoever but the fact remains that without any family and friend support system he was able to get off the streets. He accomplished what he set out to do and regardless of having a better life to return to he stuck to accomplishing his goal. I'll excuse the mentally ill and the truely disabled but everybody else is just making excuses. People can fight their addictions, they can work past life's set backs through a myriad of ways. If you are homeless in this country, you are not working hard enough to remedy your situation.

Infants never belong in a theater period. Neither do toddlers or even kids that can't be entertained enough to sit still for a couple of hours. Accompanied by a parent is a joke. When I saw "The Thing" back in 1982 some guy brought his five year old. That kid is probably still in therapy. Parents are foolish to rely on the ratings. They need to check out the movie first. I see no problem with what was said that the UK does. 18 means you have to be 18, end of story.

I don't care if she was nine or ninty, corporate America needs to treat it's consumers better. Maybe a start would be to have actual people read and understand the letters coming in. A few years ago I wrote a letter of complaint to my bank. I got a form letter back that thanked me for my phone call and proceeded to address a subject that had nothing to do with what my concerns were. All you people that just want to say so what, it's our consumer dollars that made these companies what they are. Is it too much to ask that they take the time to respond appropriately to it's customers? They have every right to protect themselves legally but is anybody going to win a case against a large corporation by saying, "I sent them that idea in a letter."? Where's the proof? Apple was stupiod and insensitive.
And so what if this story is dated. I'd never heard it, so get down off your high horse and lighten up.

I see nothing wrong with this. Private money, private property, private service. It would only be wrong if it were the governmental fire fighting agencies hiring themselves out to the highest bidder. AIG is just the first to provide this type of service but I would imagine in the future, homeowners will be able to hire fire fighting companies themselves. I can see entrepreneurs everywhere lining up to get in on this one.
