Today in Melbourne, a bloke just got 5 years for manslaughter for.......smashing a mug into his girlfriends head and leaving her to bleed to death.

He got 5 because he had to go watch the footy and drink beer with his brother and he didn't have time to call an ambulance. Melbourne is very serious about footy.

Why a foreign language? English is bad enough.

When I was in the states, many years ago, with my German girlfriend, yanqusan's would say something obscure to us and my girlfriend would say 'you speak English, what did they say?'. Quite often my answer would be 'I don't know, I don't speak THAT English'.

A couple of times, I would say something and peeps would ask her 'what did he say?'. Having learnt 'Oxford English, she had great pleasure in translating from Australian.

Note:
1: I speak Strine
2: I have no idea what Oxford English is but she was taught it.
3: we spent a lot of time in the back blocks ie Alabam, Louisiana etc (and had a grouse time).

@TimO. Did you hear about the release of official papers the other day from the UK re: UK/Canadian plans for bio-poison darts and gas to be dropped on German cities....in the final phases of the war. Apparently they wanted to impress the USSR how ruthless we were but the engineering boffo's (damn them) couldn't get them to work w/o too much collateral damage. Hmmmmm....I wonder if an atomic bomb would impress the commies.
