Getting to Know Alternative Bananas

So you may have already heard that the banana we've all come to love, the Cavendish, is likely to become endangered during our lifetimes thanks to the highly contagious Panama Disease. While that stinks, it doesn't mean the end of bananas all together. Instead, we'll just switch to a new cultivar like our grandparents did when they moved from the Gros Michel to the Cavendish.

So what are our options banana-wise? WebEcoist has the answer with a rundown of 7 different bananas we all might be eating in the near future. The ones above are the ae ae bananas that grow in Hawaii and Florida. I don't know how they taste, but they sure look cool.

How to Make a Twitter Cake

Two years ago, Ann Reardon wowed the internet with her cake shaped like the Instagram logo. With every slice through the core, you got the full symbol. This cake is similar, but shows Larry, Twitter’s iconic bird.

The calls it a “surprise inside dessert.” To make your own, get a tall, roughly cylindrical container. Print out a template for your logo, sized so that it fits easily within the container. Get 0.3 millimeter-thick aluminum flashing. Mold it into the shape of logo.

Then mix a chocolate cremeux, which apparently is something like a gelatinous mousse. Also make a white chocolate mousse for the white background, an orange glaze for the crust and a pate de sucre for the base. You can find the full recipe here.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Bun Burger

That title doesn't really do this culinary marvel justice. The bun consists of two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches which been battered in kettle chips, then deep fried. The beef patty has been marinated in bananas and sriracha sauce. Oh, and there's bacon, too.

You want one? You'll have to go to PYT, a restaurant in Philadelphia that prides itself on making weird burgers. Now stop licking the monitor.

French Fry Hamburger Bun

Nick Chipman, the mad food scientist at DudeFoods, found a way to make eating a fast food meal more efficient. Why eat a burger and fries as separate food items? You can combine them.

They key ingredient is an edible adhesive called Dab-N-Hold. I don't have any, so I'll just use wood glue as a substitute. Nick baked frozen French fries, applied the adhesive, then cut out a circle by tracing along the outside of a glass. He reports that it tastes like a regular hamburger with "a slight hint of lemons."

The Right Way to Eat a Chicken Wing

(Video Link)

You can eat an entire apple--including the core--if you eat it the right way. Foodbeast's research team showed us how last year. Now they're back with a demonstration of how to eat a chicken wing. You've got a pile of those hot, spicy, greasy things. They're wrapped in bone, fat and cartilage. How will you get them down your gullet with as little work as possible?

I generally avoid chicken wings because they're not worth the hassle. But maybe this method demonstrated by Brandi Milloy is just the right trick.

Enjoy Louis Armstrong's Recipe For Ham Hocks And Red Beans

You know him as the voice of early Jazz, some called him Satchmo while others simply referred to him as Pops. Louis Armstrong was the charming and ridiculously talented Ambassador of the early Jazz scene, the performer of hits like "What A Wonderful World" and "Ain't Misbehavin" which are still beloved to this day, even by folks who otherwise can't stand Jazz.

Louis' sign off in letters read “Red Beans and Ricely Yours, Louis Armstrong” which friends and family found adorable, if a bit odd, until they tried his famous Ham Hocks and Red Beans. Now you can try your hand at making Ham Hocks and Red Beans the Satchmo way with his favorite recipe, perfect for celebrating your in-laws finally leaving town after the holidays, or simply because you like to get down with some down home cookin'!

Mountain Dew Flavored Cheetos

Like pork rinds and loneliness, Mountain Dew and Cheetos are two flavors that just naturally belong together. Frito Lay and PepsiCo have now joined forces to accelerate your journey of self-loathing. Frito Lay already markets its flagship product with Pepsi and strawberry flavors, so this seems like a natural progression.

Redditor jumblebutt says that they are technically edible:

They taste like sweet lemon lime chips. While they're not as gross as I expected, they certainly aren't enjoyable. It's a pretty weird taste.

When I first saw this image, I thought that it was a ramen cup. I would think that Mountain Dew Cheetos ramen would also be a marketable product.

Hot Cocoa and 3 Musketeer Brownie Bites

What's better than a brownie? How about a one with a Hot Cocoa 3 Musketeers baked right in the middle? Inside BruCrew Life has the recipe and it looks utterly fantastic.

I hadn't even heard of Hot Cocoa 3 Musketeers yet, but apparently they have marshmallow mixed in with the classic candy bar you love. If you really want to class up the brownie bites, then follow the blog's idea and put some cool whip, sprinkles and mini marshmallows on top.

Of course, if you love caramel and chocolate, you can always use a Milky Way in place of the 3 Musketeers bar.

30 Ways to Make Grilled Cheese

If your New Years Resolution is to enjoy more grilled cheese sandwiches (that's really a much better and more realistic goal than losing weight anyway), then the first place you should head is Momtastic, where you can learn how to make a new grilled cheese sandwich for every day of the month. These aren't just a matter of using cheddar instead of American either. These sandwiches are each vastly different than one another and the variety of flavors is rather impressive. Personally, I think I'd like to get started on the roasted strawberry, brie and chocolate one followed by the corned beef.

Of course, if your resolution is to lose weight, this list is also a perfect excuse to quit your resolution early.

The Karate Kid Bacon Sculpture

In this sculpture by Instructables member shaneltl, Daniel LaRusso is ready to deliver his decisive blow against his rival, Johnny of the Cobra Kai dojo. It’s made of a pound of bacon, canned croissant dough, stove pipe wire and tin foil. Shaneltl arranged a wire frame and wrapped bacon around it. Then, true to the original film, he gave Daniel a gi made of dough.

I’m not sure if this sculpture should be eaten or placed in a museum. It should definitely win the All Valley Karate Championship.

Cooking a Turkey with the Exhaust Flames of a Lamborghini

(Video Link)

You can bake a turkey in an oven. But that takes, like, hours. Almost all day! Who has time for that? You want a method that is fast and sears in the turkey's natural flavors with carbon monoxide. That's why you need a Lamborghini Aventador.

YouTube user Shmee150 borrowed one decorated like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. He speared a whole turkey on a fork and held it up to the exhaust pipe while a driver gunned the engine. The result was very manly.
