Frog Burger

(Photo: PR Times)

Can you guess what animal is cooked in this special sandwich?

The café at the Japanese science museum Orbi Yokohama is noted for its surprising hamburgers, such as one that looks like the Earth. That museum, in conjunction with the nearby Sunshine Aquarium, held an exhibit on poisonous and venomous animals, including frogs. After looking at poisonous frogs, you’re invited to eat a presumably non-poisonous one. You read more about it at Rocket News 24.

Taco Bell Unveils Cap'n Crunch Covered Balls of Frosting

(Photo: Peter Pham/Food Beast)

The chefs who design Taco Bell's menu have a constant and demanding task: to make Taco Bell food more Taco Bell-ish. The latest result of their ongoing efforts is Cap'n Crunch Delights. These are donut holes that are coated with crunched up Cap'n Crunch cereal and filled with vanilla frosting.

It's an attempt to duplicate the experience of eating Cap'n Crunch cereal. In this case, the creme inside represents the milk in a bowl of cereal.

That's One Adorably Scary Cake

Freddy Cuteger is equal parts scary and adorable in this amazing cake by the Black Cherry Cake Company. This creepy cutie was created as the company's submission in a movie-themed cake competition. I don't know if he won or not, but he certainly should have and if he didn't, those judges better drink a little coffee because I hear Freddy has been known to visit people in their dreams and mark his territory all over their dream destination.

This Is How You Eat a Cheeseburger in Space

In 1985, Rodolfo Neri Vela, a Mexican scientist, served on a mission of the space shuttle Discovery. He brought tortillas. These proved to be an incredibly practical food in zero gravity. NASA astronauts have been using them ever since when attempting to make sandwiches.

That doesn't mean the results are always pretty. Pictured above is a cheeseburger made by astronaut Terry W. Virts, who is currently on board the International Space Station. The burger consists of broken up beef patty, cheese paste, tomato paste, and Russian mustard on a tortilla. He describes it as "VERY TASTY!"

KFC's Next Culinary Stunt: Edible Coffee Cups

KFC (and much of its fast food competition) is no stranger to gimmicks. Before the publicity on the infamous Double Down is even dead, it seems their team in charge of special promotions has revealed the latest odd offering designed to reel them in: edible coffee cups. The product, which they've dubbed the "Scoffee Cup," is designed to coincide with the launch of Seattle's Best coffee in KFC's stores across the United Kingdom.

The Scoffee Cup is a cup-shaped cookie coated in white chocolate and sugar. In a corporate explanation that makes my mind scream "What Could Go Wrong!?" the cups are designed to "slowly" soften after the coffee is poured inside them. But perhaps the strangest thing about this new offering is the fact that it's scented with various fragrances, including coconut suntan lotion, freshly cut grass and wild flowers, scents that a representative of the designer told Grub Street,

"[The smells] have a natural ability to evoke the positive memories we associate with warm weather, sunshine and summer holidays. Things that make everyone smile."

Pecan Pie Egg Rolls Sound Like Heaven

Pecan pie is always a great treat, but those who truly adore the treat know that the best filling in the world still needs a light, flaky filling to really make the most of the dessert. If you've been having issues nailing the right crust, then maybe you should start thinking outside the pie -that is, consider trying an egg roll wrapper instead. It might sound crazy if you're used to traditional egg rolls that are filled with soy sauce, meat and cabbage, but if you've ever had sweet cream cheese won tons then you know the light dough can be a perfect balance of flaky and crunchy.

Want to try it yourself? Then head over to Capturing Joy for the recipe.

How to Cut a Carrot

(YouTube link)

This person spends over three minutes cutting a carrot, but the end result is worth it. No, she’s not going to cut her fingers off, although that’s the impression you might get as that blade gets close to them. The artist is not identified, and I’m not even sure it’s a woman, but she has nice fingernails. The video is titled Cooking Class Heroes, but I would bet she’s a teacher instead of a student. You may want to skip through some of the middle parts, but do not miss the end. -via Boing Boing

Pizza-Inspired Nail Polish

You know what goes great with pizza? How about nail polish?

As part of its Valentine's Day promotion, Pizza Hut Australia has released a line of pizza-inspired nail polish with colors such as "Say Cheese," "Meat Me After Midnight," and "Dough You Need Me."

The nail polish will serve as prizes to a poetry contest, where people can submit pizza-themed poems as entries (the cheesier the poem, we assume, the better).

See how your pizza poem stacks up against the winners:

In the linked article, BuzzFeed presents 32 sandwiches from countries all over the world. Quite a few of them look pretty tasty to me. What's your pleasure?

Mardi Gras Pancakes

Tomorrow is Mardi Gras, or Pancake Day as it’s known in many parts. It’s the final day before Lent, when all the rich foods and sweets need to be cleared out so they won’t tempt you during the fast. Still, many folks who don’t fast during Lent still celebrate Pancake Day. The colorful recipe you see here comes from Manchester, England, believe it or not, but chef Anyonita is an American who incorporated the New Orleans Mardi Gras colors into her recipe for Mardi Gras King Cake Fruit & Honey Pancakes at Anyonita Nibbles. It’s just one of many pancake and crepe recipes you may want to try out in a list at Buzzfeed.

Handcrafted Hard Candy

(YouTube link)

La Confiserie CandyLabs in Montreal is known for handcrafted hard candy with shapes inside. Watching how they do it is mesmerizing. After they cook and flavor the candy, it gets manipulated -a lot. All that manipulation to make the designs goes on in a hurry to keep the candy at the right temperature, consistency, and shape. I was impressed with how clean the process is, despite how much handling the candy goes through. The entire process takes about three hours. If you’re in Montreal, you can see them do this live! -via mental_floss
