The Double Down Dog

KFC rolled out a new menu item Monday: the Double Down Dog. This carnivore’s concoction consists of a hot dog nestled in a "bun" of breaded fried chicken pieces. You can have yours with a splash of melted cheese or other condiments. But the supply of the Double Down Dogs was limited yesterday to 50 each at 12 outlets in the Philippines, which sold out all 600 of the sandwiches. However, there will be more Tuesday, the last day of the promotion. Will we ever see the Double Down Dog in the U.S.? That may depend on how well it goes over in this limited run. What's the point in putting a hot dog in your fried chicken, anyway?

I just ate a double down dog for lunch today. It's greasy and very unhealthy. And I like it! I'm sure I'll regret this ten years from now, but I always live for the moment. :p

BTW, I like balut too. It is messy and can be unhealthy (high cholesterol). But don't knock it till you tried it. I've been eating it since I was about four or five years old. Yummy stuff. Next, you'll tell me you think dinuguan (pork's blood soup) is disgusting too!

I was just talking yesterday with a man who was nostalgic for hotdogs stuffed with Hormel chili (which apparently are no longer available, to his complete bewilderment). They were called, unsurprisingly, "Frank 'n Stuff."

I have the feeling the Double Down Dog would be an instant favorite with people like this man.
