The Bizarrely Creative Sushi of Blue C Sushi

Like sushi but wish there were more classic European flavors with your fish? Then you just might dig the eclectic menu of Blue C sushi. Food Beast has a photo-loaded review of some of their great dishes and they've certainly got me interested. For example, the loaded baked potato roll above or their potato katsu that's sort of like a tater tot with a Japanese touch.

I'm also particularly fascinated by these crispy fried rice squares lightly fried with spicy tuna on top, with that great crispy texture and a hint of spiciness.

My favorite roll ever was filled with tempura fried sweet potato with cream cheese. Do you guys like your sushi crazy or more traditional?

The Modern Farmer Pie Chart

The best kind of pie chart is a chart about pies! And the percentages are easy: each month is 1/12 of the year. But this chart tells you what kind of pie is most seasonal for each month, and what kind of crust to put it in. This is only the top part of the chart, though. The rest of it has the actual recipes for each pie and crust, and you can find that at Modern Farmer. This would even look nice printed out for your kitchen! My favorite pies are blackberry and mincemeat, neither of which is included, but I like most fruit pies. Which pie do you crave? -via Metafilter

Crush Your Sweet Tooth With This Candy Crush Cake

I know a lot of gamers who dislike Candy Crush because it is a mobile game rather than a PC or console game. But as a puzzle lover, I just can't get enough stripped, wrapped and sprinkle-covered candies.

As much time as I've been spending on the game, I think if someone presented me this cake for my birthday, I'd start trying to switch the candies around rather than slicing it open and eating a slice -especially since the sprinkled candy is just begging to smash all the blue candies on the board. I don't know who made this great cake, but it was uploaded to Twitter by Chris Martinez.

Fortunately, UK cupcake shop Hey Little Cupcake is there to help the mustache-impaired Movember revelers party with these adorable mustach cupcakes.

Of course, Movember isn't just about looking fabulous with your facial hair, it's also about helping to raise money for prostate cancer and Hey Little Cupcake is donating a portion of their proceeds to Movember UK to support the cause.

The World's Most Expensive Teas

How much would you be willing to pay for a great cup of tea? I spend about 2 cents for a tea bag these days, which is about as far as I want to go, considering I drink maybe ten cups a day. Of course, there is a great variety in the most popular drink on earth, so you can pick your poison.

If you're really into bling, you might want to try Yellow Gold Tea Buds, which is sold only in Singapore. Each leaf is painted with real gold! I honestly doubt that adds to the taste, but it will certainly impress your guests. The price is $105.71 for 50 grams, which works out to more than $4 a cup. That doesn't seem all that extravagant, considering what Starbucks charges for a cup of coffee. But Yellow Gold Tea Buds is only the fifth most expensive tea in the world. See what it takes to get consumers to pay even more in a list from top10zen. -via the Presurfer

Sugar Meadows

Isn't this a lovely patch of wildflowers? They're probably delicious, too -the flowers are made of sugar paste! Each flower and leaf was handmade by the folks at Rosalind Miller Cakes for the Experimental Food Society Spectacular. The display included a fan that made the flowers sway in the wind! Boston Cream French Toast

Jessie Oleson Moore, the internet’s Cakespy, combined two perfect foods. There’s nothing like a big hunk of Boston cream pie for breakfast and a few slices of French toast for dessert. Now you can have them together.

Ms. Moore got her recipe from Kristen Abbott, who contributed it to the annual Pillsbury Bake-Off. It consists of a can of crusty French bread dough, condensed milk, whipping cream, egg yolks, vanilla and chocolate-flavored hazelnut spread.

Thanksgivukkah-Stuffed Donuts

A sufganiyah is a traditional Jewish pastry of North African origin eaten at Hanukkah. It’s similar to a stuffed donut.

This year, American Thanksgiving and Hanukkah overlap on November 28. It’s a rare event that hasn’t happened since 1888. So some Americans are celebrating “Thanksgivukkah”—a blending of the two holidays.

To mark the occasion, the Zucker Bakery in New York City is selling sufganiyot that are stuffed with Thanksgiving foods, such as turkey gravy and cranberry sauce.

Creme Brulee Ice Cream

What's could possibly make a rich, creamy, custard-y vanilla ice cream even better? How about a warm, crispy sugar shell like that found on creme brulee. Lindsey, who writes Cafe Johnsonia, says this ice cream treat is her favorite dessert and it's easy to say why.

Because it's so high in egg yolks, the ice cream says nice and creamy, even after you torch the sugar coating to create a great creme brulee crust. The site also has a suggestion on how to make a similar candy to put in the ice cream if you'd rather not prepare things right before eating -though the presentation is pretty hard to beat when you do it fresh.

Eggs Cheesaddict Anyone?

How do you improve on the amazing, rich flavor of a heavenly eggs Benedict? Switch out that boring old English muffin for a grilled cheese sandwich. Or at least that's how Nick from Dude Foods does it and I like his line of thinking.

After all, an English muffin might have crispy nooks and crannies to catch all the gooey egg yolk and hollandaise sauce, but a grilled cheese sandwich has, well, grilled cheese and that's pretty much unbeatable. If you dig the flavor of butter, toast and a fried egg from an egg in a basket, then you'll love having those tastes combined with Canadian bacon, cheese and hollandaise. Though I think I'd reach for Swiss cheese over American.

Three Stooges Fries

(Photo: Hungry Dudes)

Cartoonist Adam Koford, the designer of two dozen t-shirts on sale at the NeatoShop, is on to something. Curly fries look more like the hair of Larry Fine (right) than Curly Howard (center). Straight fries, I suppose, should be called Moe Howard fries.

Why the Sandwich is the King of Food-Engineering

Sandwiches are the bomb. This graphic from Doghouse Diaries outlines many of the reasons we love sandwiches. However, you can tell it was written by a guy, because they left out my favorite reason that sandwiches are the perfect food: it eliminates dishes to be washed. Take it from someone who's eaten thousands of sandwiches in the past 50 years, and made even more than that. -via Tastefully Offensive

Glow-in-the-Dark Ice Cream

Charlie Francis of the Lick Me, I'm Delicious ice cream company tells us about commissioning a special ice cream for Halloween. It glows when you lick it!

But what on earth is it??? It's glow in the dark jellyfish ice cream using calcium activated proteins that react when they are agitated, or to put it a non sciencey way, it glows when you lick it. It's also pretty insanely expensive stuff, we worked out each scoop is coming out at around £140, dam those big bucks jellyfish. Is it safe to eat? Well I tried some and I don't seem to be glowing anywhere, so we'll go with a yes for now. We've also made a non-jellyfish version using quinine from tonic to make a glow in the UV dark gin and tonic sorbet which is pretty neat and can be ordered from all good Lick Me I'm Delicious event contraptions.

He doesn't mention what flavor the ice cream is. I hope it's not jellyfish flavor. We've discussed the fluorescent protein extracted from jellyfish before, but this is the first instance I recall of it being put in food. -via Boing Boing
