Iconic video game characters are now an integral part of pop culture, and even non-gamers can identify some of them by their name and their distinct look.

Which is why they make such great crossover characters, and with a little tweaking they can become the stars of a mainstream rom-com, advertising mascots or the main characters in a series of pulp novels.

Illustrator Astor Alexander has captured our geeky imaginations with his cover art for pulp novels starring a hard-bitten Mario ready to plug Peach's captors and Geralt of Rivia- private eye.
