The Littlest Viking

Marilyn Terrell of National Geographic's Intelligent Travel sent us pictures of her grandson's Halloween costume, in which he joins his parents as a Viking raider!
My daughter knit the chain mail and cap, and ripped up some old stuffed animals for the fur. The horns are a pair of old kid gloves stuffed with aluminum foil and ringed with fleece from an old jacket.

Princess Darth

Redditor JonXP's five year old daughter wanted to be Darth Vader for Halloween.
She said she wanted to have a scary costume this year, thought about it, and announced "Darth Vader, but pink!". We ended up settling on the whole princess motif so I wouldn't have to sew EVERYTHING.

Lioness Plays with Toddler through Glass

(Video Link)

Unlike this video, in which a lion is clearly trying (and failing) to eat a child at the zoo through the safety glass, it really looks like this animal is playing. Still, if this cat wants to sit on my keyboard, I won't try to push her off.

Pregnant Zombie Costumes

Halloween is coming up...and you're pregnant. Very pregnant. So your Basement-Dwelling Blogger costume from last year won't fit. No problem! You can be a zombie. WonderHowTo has photos of some creative women who have made their bellies a central part of their zombie costumes. The one pictured above is among the more subtle examples.

Artist Gives Birth in front of Gallery Audience

Do you remember the artist who planned to give birth in front of an audience in an art gallery? She did it!

New York performance artist Marni Kotak gave birth to a healthy baby boy yesterday morning at the Microscope Gallery in Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood, in front of a small crowd of family, friends, and select spectators, the AP reports. "The atmosphere in the gallery was magical," writes Katarina Hybenova of the Bushwick Daily, who was one of those spectators. "I believe that all of the participants were deeply moved by this emotional, raw, and true 'piece of art.'"

This Turkey Is a Bit Underdone

And you can't take chances with poultry. Don't burn it, but don't serve undercooked turkey. Or, for that matter, a baby in Isabelle Baril-Ortley's turkey costume. It was featured on Martha Stewart's television show

Twins Deliver Babies on the Same Day

Jessica and Jennifer Patterson are used to doing everything together. The identical 21-year-old twin sisters are alike in every way, except a few ways in which they are mirror images. They even share an apartment. And now, they are both mothers, after giving birth on the same day in the same hospital.
Jessica went to Bloomington [Indiana] Hospital Tuesday night to be induced.

"I was with her in the hospital room," said Jennifer.

But instead of Jessica going into labor, Jennifer did

"I was just contracting every two to three minutes," said Jennifer.

Twelve hours later, little Adeline was born.

"It was after Adeline was born I started having really bad contractions," said Jessica.

And soon Mason joined his cousin.

"I hope they grow up really close," said Jessica.

Alleged 2,000-Foot Hot Wheels Track

(Video Link)

This video allegedly shows a Hot Wheels toy track that is fully two thousand feet long. Watch it stretch all over a house, down sidewalks, and through backyards. Oh, to have such a toy when I was a boy!

It was produced on behalf of a foundation that funds research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare genetic disorder that effects mainly young boys.

Baby Dressed As A French Bulldog

Plenty of people dress up their dogs for Halloween, but not many parents dress the baby up like the family dog. Given how cute it is though, maybe more of us should start doing this. Instructions to make your own are at the link.

A Modest Proposal

These two photos floated into my RSS reader this week, and they're too good not to share.

Yes, I know. I'm terrible. But you're laughing too.

The 15 Cutest Geeky Baby Costumes

Last year, Neatorama presented the 13 geekiest Halloween costumes, and while there were a few cute kiddo costumes in the mix, overall, the list was distinctively short on adorability. Hoping to remedy that problem this year, I have opted to do a round up on the epitome of cute costumes, baby Halloween outfits. Don’t worry, there is still all the delightful geekiness you’ve come to expect from Neatorama and NeatoBambino, it’s just that it's about ten times cuter this time around.

Harry Potter

There is no way this little one is not violating the ministry’s Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery. Just look at the way his mother, Christine Penguino, is taunting him with that broom. He was born to be a rebel and Flickr user ZarrSadus has the photographic evidence to prove it.

Update: Our very own Neatobambino reader Christine is mother to this adorable wizard and she has offered us a link with another cute image of baby Potter.

Chun Li

This little Street Fighter’s specialty move must be killing her victims with cuteness. Of course, with a face like that, her enemies must be dropping like flies. It’s amazing Flickr user San Diego Shooter was able to get this picture before he was overwhelmed with the desire to pinch Chun Li’s cheeks until his fingers fell off.

Wolverine

Just like Logan, this little guy has such a bad attitude that even his dad is wary of those adamantium claws. No doubt about it, San Diego Shooter is one brave Flickr member.

Star Wars

ThinkGeek is always a great source to get your tyke ready for his journey into geekdom and their Star Wars costumes are just one step in the right direction.

Star Trek

Of course, if you’d prefer your little one learn how to speak Klingon from a young age, you’d probably be better off with these adorable Star Trek costumes.

Doctor Who

If your baby seems to regenerate a new personality every few months, it might not be their fault. You might have given birth to the world’s newest and cutest time lord like little Valentine here.

Supergirl

Flickr user marniejoyce was lucky to catch this shot of Supergirl right before she took a nap. After all, stopping a bank robbery in diapers is hard work.

Nacho Libre

He may be small, but this little Nacho Libre has all the passion needed to win the hearts and minds of his fans. Of course, he probably still won’t win the big match, but he’s still a winner in my eyes. I’ve looked all over to find an original source for this costume, but I can’t. If you know who originally posted it, let me know and I’ll post a link here.

Storm Trooper

Just like when Han donned this enemy uniform, this little guy, shot at Comic Con by Flickr user Gabriel Madrigal Photography, is too cool for the face-hiding helmet.

Princess Leia

With her knitted braids and white onesie, baby Princess Leia is certainly one of the most comfortable geeky costumed babes. She even had help from mommy so she pose with her light saber for Flickr user San Diego Shooter.

Yoda

Love crafts and the teachings of a little green Jedi? Then perhaps you should head over to Etsy seller demulcentarts’ store to check out her adorable knitted Yoda caps.

Incredible Hulk

Even with all those muscles, I don’t think this Hulk could smash much. Even so, he still looks a lot happier than the Hulk we’re used to seeing.

Flash

Sure Flickr user midiman’s nephew can hardly walk, but you’d better believe he can crawl faster than you can run.

Kiss

Does your tike seem to rock and roll all night and party every day, leaving you beyond sleep deprived? Well, celebrate his inner rock star with this adorable Kiss costume from Spirit. And just in case you’re wondering, yes, they do carry all of the Kiss members’ costumes.

Doctor

Are you already certain your bundle of joy will grow up to be a doctor? Well then, get used to the way he looks in scrubs with this Baby, M.D. costume available from the Neatoshop.

Ok all you geek mommies and daddies, what was the best costume your baby ever wore? Are any of you planning to make your babies even geekier this Halloween?

Girl Scouts Offer New Badges for the 21st Century

The world has changed since the Girl Scouts of the USA was founded in 1912 -- as well as the roles of women in society. That organization which has nurtured so many girls into women has decided to keep pace by offering new merit badges in science, technology, and business:

There's also a badge within the Innovation series called Product Designer, which Niehaus calls "the intersection of design and business." Girls working on that badge might try to improve the functionality of backpack straps or improve the design of a cell-phone case.

Girl Scouts keeping track of the bottom line will also have the opportunity to earn Financial Literacy badges in which, as a girl works her way up from Daisy to Ambassador, she can earn badges like Money Manager, Budgeting, Financing My Future, and Good Credit. And yes, there are plenty of cookie-related badges: Meet My Customers, Business Plan, and Customer Loyalty, among others.

This Baby Is Confused Why a Magazine Doesn't Function Like an iPad

(Video Link)

This is the future.

iPads predate the life of this child. Even at one year old, she can manipulate an iPad with ease. But she doesn't understand why a print magazine doesn't work the same way. Watch her try to navigate it with her fingers.

YouTube user UserExperienceWorks says "For my 1 year old daughter, a magazine is an iPad that does not work. It will remain so for her entire life."

Get ready.
