California Governor Signs Chelsea's Law

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed Chelsea's Law.
The bill, authored by Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego, requires a life sentence without the possibility of parole for forcible sex acts against minors. It also tightens sex offense parole guidelines and requires lifelong tracking of certain sex offenders.

Assembly Bill 1844 is named in honor of Chelsea King.  Chelsea was a 17-year old high school  student who was raped and murdered by a registered sex offender.

The California law goes into effect immediately.
