Boy Rescued From Collapsed Sand Tunnel

An 11-year old boy in California was buried alive when a sand tunnel collapsed on top of him.
The boy, who was not identified, dug two holes about 10 feet apart in the sand near Eighth Street with the help of his sister.

"They were trying to create a tunnel, the boy dug each hole diagonally about 6 feet deep," Manhattan Beach fire Battalion Chief Dave Shenbaum said.

This little guy luckily survived, but the story does emphasize the hidden dangers of digging in the sand at the beach.  I think many of us often focus on the dangers of the water and forget the sand can also be treacherous.
