A Day in the Life of an Enshittificator

Author Cory Doctorow coined the term "enshittification" to describe how online services tend to, over time, get stupidly worse. More generally, enshittification has become used to describe how products and services have become worse over time. Things are not built to last, but to break down almost immediately upon purchase. Contracts are not honored, trust is not nurtured, and providers of services take every opportunity to barely fulfill obligations.

It's what happens when a high trust society degenerates into a low trust society.

The Norwegian Consumer Council, a government organization ostensibly tasked with protecting consumers from enshittification, produced this humorous video describing a man whose job is to enshittify everything he can.

Yes, two-factor authentication can be aggravating.
I'm an admin for my library's Springshare account and have to enter in a verification account every single time I login.

What's really gotten worse is this trend where you try to log in to something online (bank, email, work site, airline account, etc,) and, even though you've correctly typed your name and password, the site still won't let you in until it sends a code to your cellphone. Problems:1) Contrary to what 19-year-old think, not every person has a cellphone;2) Cellphones can break (because they're made poorly and are fragile);3) Cellphones can get lost or stolen;4) Cellphones don't work in other countries, so when I'm on a trip abroad, I cannot log in and pay my credit card bill, even though I have internet access and know my password.
