Lucid Dreaming, Step by Step

Lucid dreaming is the ability to consciously control your dreams while having them. Whether reuniting with someone you’ve missed for a long time or showing off cool superpowers in an intense fight, molding your dreamscape into a desirable experience is achievable.

Also known as metacognitive dreaming or conscious dreaming, scientifically, this phenomenon involves the dreamer becoming conscious at the end of REM sleep. The person becomes aware that they are dreaming, which provides them the opportunity to mold the environment to their will. Tree Carr, who teaches regular dreaming workshops at She’s Lost Control, a London-based outlet for alternative wellness, shared to Wallpaper some steps on how to lucid dream. I have the ability to do lucid dreaming. It isn't full control, nor can I plan in advance to do it.

It happens most frequently just before waking up. Sometimes I can even wake up briefly, remember my dream, then restart it and either resume it or replay portions of it and modify it slightly.

Nothing particularly new here. No mention of LaBerge. No mention of some of the more important techniques. More than a few hints of hooey (eg. I’m dubious about the value of “oneirogen herbs”). I don’t know who (self-declared mystic) Tree Carr is, but I’m rather underwhelmed by this short piece. There are far better introductory guides to be found.
