I agree with you falves. I hate online ads, but I also realize that we simply can't survive without them. The economics of online ads have also changed drastically over the years: it used to be that we could make ends meet with just banner ads. But as those ads decline in revenue, we finally had to give in and allow the more intrusive video ads. Sigh. In any case, you shouldn't see any ads at all if you browse the site while logged in - so that's one solution! Thank you again for reading Neatorama!
Although falves mentioned the ads (I also don't like the video), they are not as intrusive as boingboing's, which I stopped visiting. And if you want me to be honest, I don't like Franzified's Engrish entries; as someone from an Asian country I don't find that "neat." Another thing I don't like about Franzified's posts is the constant asking for our opinions--feels like they are trolling for "likes."
What I like about the site is that as a whole it is intelligent. The articles that provide the background stories of historical events or scientific topics have been interesting and expand what I already know or what I think that I know about a topic. Most recently it was the article on the decline of the golden age of serial killers. But really it's everything on the site:. Art, design, geeky stuff. Sometimes I'll just stop by to visit the shop. It is a good mix and balance of everything cool.ReplyForward
