Helen Nugent's Pie Art

Helen Nugent taught herself the arcane arts of piecraft. As you can see from her Instagram feed, she has thoroughly mastered them. From her home kitchen in Toronto, she weaves the most elaborately tasty and beautiful pies you've ever seen. Nugent now passes on her knowledge in a newly-published grimoire titled Pie Style: Stunning Designs and Flavorful Fillings You Can Make at Home.

The counts are in and the Coloured Lights Pie has won the vote! However, since there were also a lot of undecided voters (and those who preferred the 'white' lights), swipe left for the baked white lights version. Check out my IG story to watch this pie light up! Well, sort of. 😁Thanks to everyone who weighed in on The Great Christmas Lights Pie Debate as it will now be known (only by me, I realize). Happy decorating! 🎄😁💕 A late addition/tip: As I'm sure you know, a pie has to be vented during baking. Otherwise it's going to blow up, crack your pastry and/or do all sorts of other ugly things to your beautiful pie. When you have a closed design like this one, and don't want to cut vents into the design, simply remove/leave out a few of your cutout pieces (in this case, several of the lightbulbs) before baking. Vent the pie where those pieces were and bake the cutouts you removed separately (keep an eye on them so they don't burn. I speak from experience.). When your pie is baked, simply re-cover those vents with your baked cutouts and voila (the extent of my French right there), a beautiful pie!
