Aren’t these paintings incredibly breathtaking? At first glance, they looked real to me. I was surprised to see that they were only paintings.

These paintings were made by Lisa Ericson, an artist from Portland who combines hyperrealistic style with vivid imagination creating surreal, nature-inspired animal paintings.

Behind the colorful acrylic-on-panel artwork is a powerful message. She calls her collection the Border Crossing series which depicts combination of plants and animals which seems to on a journey travelling to the unknown.

Erikson’s work merges themes of animal migration in the wild with human migration and the refugee crisis.
