Elegant Kinetic Sculpture Mimics the Movements of a Hummingbird

This amazing clockwork automaton is called Colibri. Derek Hugger, a master of this craft, made it by precisely designing and aligning gears and levers so that a hummingbird appears to approach a flower, drink nectar, then fly away. Hugger based his design on how actual hummingbirds move and spent about 700 hours getting the approximately 400 parts to move in perfect synchronicity.

You can buy a copy of Colibri. Or, if you're truly daring, you can build one of your own from plans that he sells.
