I have the same problem with "Silence of the Lambs." WIth cell phones and DNA testing, the entire story would have been different.

I seem to recall a short video about how some classic movies would have turned out if they had cell phones. Pretty funny.

This one wouldn't have worked because there are no cell towers in space around Tattoine.

It's not unreasonable to assume cellphones would be unable to span light-years. Even in the Star-Wars galaxy.

What McLaughlin said. Cellphones wouldn't work without satellites and relay towers. How would they work across star systems? The fantasy/sci-fi of Star Wars, like most space-traveling sci-fi, expects that one can accept faster-than-light travel, but not faster-than-light radio waves.
