Blackout Poetry

Newspaper Blackout is Austin Kleon's latest poetry project. He's taken pages of text, often from newspapers, and blacked out words so that those left behind form free verse lines.

Hey y'all! Thanks for featuring Newspaper Blackout! Just wanted to call out — that poem was made by one of my readers, not by me personally. (I encourage anyone and everyone to try out the form and submit the results.)

Austin, cool! Most people don't know that this is a form of found poetry that has been used for a while that's also called "cross-out text."
There are even published volumes of this sort of work from poets like Mary Ruefle (http://www.wavepoetry.com/catalog/47-a-little-white-shadow). My husband is a poet and is using this form to create a manuscript based on a 1984 issue of _Marriage and Family Sociology_. It yields some interesting results sometimes. Thanks for sharing this form with the world!
Cool post, Farrier.
