Thai Flood Hacks

Necessity is truly the mother of invention, so when the going gets tough because of the 2011 Thailand Floods, the Thais get floatin' on a DIY boat made from water bottles.

Thai Flood Hacks is a Tumblr blog that collects the ingenuity of the Thai people in dealing with the 3-month-old flood. A few more pics:

But if the cat floats, they won't be able to collect the insurance money.

Yeah, the floating toilet is kinda weird. Wakes one wonder if it isn't just a hole in the floor.

I wondered about that too. The tumblr site had a link to the story about the floating outhouses ( ). Apparently they collect the waste, then treat it and "discharge" it at a proper place, hopefully away from town. The whole article was pretty interesting; apparently the floating toilets have both a "modern" flush toilet (like in the US and Europe), and a "Thai" toilet that flushes by manually adding water to the bowl.

Interesting to see the differences in how disasters are handled between 3rd world and industrialized countries. In Thailand, it's a curiousity. In Haiti, it was a public health crisis.
